So what was the problem? Where was she in the house?
I cannot say that if a girl went missing, that I would suspect she was actually dead in grandma's house, tucked away up in the attic, or buried in the basement or something. Who would?
They have two suspects despite having so much trouble finding the body. If those suspects are the culprits, and not for show, I would say the police have done a heck of a job. Time will tell.

It seems she was killed by the 2 that were taking care of her : grand-ma (a 46 yr old woman) and mother's ex-boyfriend ex-convict (37 yr old)... and they played the crying victims on the telly until yesterday, helped at searching the garbage bins in the neighborhood.
They had a similar case judged last week in UK, parents killed a daughter and appealed for help in the media...until the siblings gave them to the police. Plus here, it's an even weirder family. Most are finding the police were slow to suspect them.

Whatever they think, it's the police's job to check the close relatives and friends in all murder/disappearance cases.

Well the police don't work magic. If these people were good at lying and covering their tracks, how are the police supposed to know?
Yeah. That is what they did.
The whole thing pretty much hinges on where the body was, a question you are not answering.
In the bathtub or on a bed? That would be incompetence. Hidden behind a false wall, carefully wrapped in plastic? Amazing she was found at all!
HIndsight is 20/20. They did not know she was dead. They only knew she was missing. Its not fair to treat a missing person's case as a murder case retroactively. Again, you are expecting the police to work magic.
