Yes, folks, M-Class planets are far and few between! You have to go 16 light-years to the Alpha Quadrant to reach Vulcan!

Because scientists can't start to comprehend something which they can't accept. For them, the qualifications of their "life supporting planets" should fall within "acceptable range" ... which is based on earth.
