These two guys will not only get a load of money from Delta, there might be a movie in the making!

so this Pilot has indirectly supported their cause and given them a chance to fight against discrimination, good luck :)

Something tells me there's more to this story.

Discrimination's bad, but when people insist on wearing Halloween costumes on their flights, there's nothing wrong with taking extra precautions. The airline should have seated them apart, on window seats, with a football player (preferably a defensive linebacker) beside them to block their access to the aisle.
-2
HonestDictator
Yes stupid airline folks, judging people to be terrorist specifically by how they dress. To be honest, a terrorist would not try to stand out if they could, the airline folks involved deserve to have their butts sued off them cos of this. You can't judge a person by how they look in the slightest. You can judge a person by their actions, and these guys were just minding there business. Doesn't say what country they were from though, just that their muslim in traditional Islamic dress from w/e country they come from. I've got no love for Islam and the hardline and weak "moderate" fanatics that choose to follow it, but this is quite stupid for tossing people off a plane "cos they dress funny" mentality. Well it is NC and Tennessee though.

That's mean!...but funny! LOL!

If they can kick off girls for wearing short shorts, what case do these guys have? Fat people get kicked off... I'm not saying it is right but...

Just old paranoia and discrimination, nothing more, nothing less...

Virtuoso: "Discrimination's bad, but when people insist on wearing Halloween costumes on their flights, there's nothing wrong with taking extra precautions."
I call THREE security checks (including a very close pat-down) and two returns to the gate being MORE than precautious, and why should these men be seated apart? It's pretty clear that the pilots bigotry was the problem, and the airline did what it could to prevent the situation from occurring, short of firing the pilot, which will probably happen now (hopefully, anyway). As one poster said, all the man did was add to their cause -- they were on their way to an anti-discrimination gathering, and they were discriminated against.

Not to my knowledge they don't. They sometimes have to pay for two seats, but I don't recall any overweight people being kicked off... unless maybe they objected.

Thats the rider right there and fair enough,
dress to intimidate and deal with the reaction, its simple as that. 10 hells angles tattooed up, with leathers, chains, drinking and patched up would make passengers uncomfortable too.
Think about it the analogy of the hallowen mask is close to it.
If your costume scares others then dont wear it. Not our fault muslims in full garb scare people now is it, its the muslims who have created this image not us.
Sick of all this pander to and show compassion and sympathy B.S. to this group of people, they are the victims in everything . I call great lumps of B.S. to this PC Stuff.
How about all those who travel they are terrified of being on the same flight as arabs muslim looking people, hell i dont even like being in a bar when a pakistani looking person wearing a rucksack walks in.
Who created all the fear?

The number of passengers departing or arriving at US airports in any given year is somewhere north of 700,000,000. Now add up every single TSA or ass-backwards pilot story you can find anywhere on the internet over the last 10 years.
Then do the math.
1
ironchef
so basically it was the pilot who was the jerk.

You make my earlier point for me, pure paranoia and discrimination, with a 'soupcon' of imbecility.
The Mass Media?

These things are more common in Canada. I think Delta hires Canadians. Wouldn't surprise if the pilot was Canucki.
-3
WilliB
There is definitely more to the story than just Indian dresses.
A safe guess is that they did everything to provoke the airline to get kicked out, and then cry foul about it. This desensitization campaign, supported by the Hamas front CAIR has been going on for a while, and it has been profitable to boot.
1
PeaceWarrior
Why would you even mention this if you have no proof?
The level of discussion in this thread is approaching Cro-magnon man levels, for Fukui's sake. Read the story again, it's an AMERICAN adjunct professor traveling with an AMERICAN religious leader traveling in the United States of AMERICA.
Smith's post is right on the money.

These quotes tell me that these guys were trying to provoke this kind of reaction. These guys are discriminatory themselves whereas they don't care about discrimination of others only muslims. They want their cake and eat it too. They want to fight "Islamophobia" but dress so as to get that reaction. These were guys looking for a fight. They found it. But it saddens me to think that they will probably win due to all the PC thinkers who are afraid of anything from honest opinions to peanut butter that they make it so that there are no honest opinions expressed or peanut butter allowed in school lunches. It's the PCers and the guys looking for a fight who are the weirdos.

This is the right perspective
superlib's post is right on. This is newsworthy, but only for provincial minds from provincial nations...

JeremiahW: "These things are more common in Canada. I think Delta hires Canadians. Wouldn't surprise if the pilot was Canucki."
Awww... the usual deflection, I see. The pilot is a bigot, bottom line. Try to leave your baggage at the door when you post.
You-JunkinJapan: "These quotes tell me that these guys were trying to provoke this kind of reaction."
What an absurd statement. What it says is that these people believe in their religion and dress as such. Anyone who thinks they were dressing to provoke the reaction they got is as bad as the bigoted pilot.

what is wrong with short shorts?

ExportExpert: "Sick of all this pander to and show compassion and sympathy B.S. to this group of people, they are the victims in everything . I call great lumps of B.S. to this PC Stuff."
And yet here you are playing the victim because you let the way some people dress affect you.

Sorry, I missed this little gem. I find it interesting that you confuse a fatal allergy with the bigotry you espouse.

The unusual combination of dress is one thing, but there is no description or record of their attitude at the time.
Easy for them to sue over this. Easy for us to discuss clothing here, but they were on their way to a conference on Islamophobia! Challenging looks? Paranoid looks? Despising looks? What?
Had they been calm and respectful then he probably would have had no objections to letting them on.
My guess is that the captain made his final decision on their expressions and the look in their eyes. Without proof to the contrary, I am afraid I would have to back the captain's decision here. If he was wrong in this case, still nobody got hurt, even if many people were temporarily incovenienced.
Captains still need our support making such difficult decisions.

I think I like Delta even more.

Farmboy
Well, it's Nashville, where some people are made uncomfortable by blacks, Puerto Ricans, Jews, Catholics, and certainly Muslims. Other people there are fine with all of the above. Too bad the first batch were working when these guys got on. If they went through two security screenings as well as questioning...enough is enough even if they were wearing a Bozo the clown outfit. If the security folks need to check that many times, then we need new security folks. Anyone really wanting to cause harm will look and dress like everyone else just to get the job done.
-1

Farmboy.
Agree, but in the end it was the Pilot that refused them access on an unconfirmed claim. I say give the pilot the Bozo costume he earned it at the same time hand him a pink slip.
2
realmind
Not all the muslims are bad. But we see hardline Muslims, hardline Christians and hardline Hindus and Jews. Here comes the problem. We should find the way to solve the problems by finding the similarities than differences.

I'll be flying on Delta from now on. Its employees are truly concerned about passenger safety.

I'm sure these two guys are now saying mission accomplished.
1

so dressed in indian gear is "funny" dress? so all Indians shouldn't be allowed to fly? what small town arguments. not too surprised there are a few of those types.
1
lostrune2
Don't blame the good people of Nashville for this. They didn't have a problem with the two men. This is all on the pilot.
4
Farmboy
Well, it's not completely clear. The two men were on board and everything was fine, but then "Shortly after the plane pulled away from the gate, the pilot announced the aircraft was returning to the terminal."
So the question is what happened that made the plane return? My assumption was that there were a bunch of the good people of Nashville complaining, since the pilot would be in the cockpit flying the plane unless somebody said something. I admit that it could be just the pilot's decision as you say, but why would the pilot have started to leave and then turned around?
Now after the plane returned and the pilot refuse these guys entry, THAT was completely the decision of the pilot, but I feel like there is some missing piece of information about the first departure.

What did these guys say and do, trust me just dressing a certain way doesnt get you kicked off a flight in America. These guys were probably acting like the 9-11 hijackers to a tee, just for this kind of press coverage.
2
It"S ME
hworta269.
What they brandished box-cutters(way into the flight) or were dressed like the 9/11 hijackers. Get real mate.
1
hworta269
Things like asking for seat belt extensions when they dont need them. Walking toward the cabin before take off. Spouting prayers and saying praise allah and all that stuff. And yes they do this I have seen it with my own eyes flying in America. These people in particular I believe belong to CAIR and the event seems to be orchestrated. Of course the real intent of the unusual behavior is to flush out the Air Marshal if there is one on the flight. Trust me businesses dont make money kicking people off of their flights for no good reason. The Airline would have fired the pilot if he had not provided a good reason. Remember 9-11 happened because people ignored the actions of people, a lot of people now act out the behaviors to a tee, and they get kicked off the flight.

UncleBudah
We support you Delta!
2
hworta269
On a side note a very similar thing happened on another airline, CAIR threatened to have muslim Americans boycott the airline and their ticket sales went through the roof. This is not the first time something like this has happened. If you want to find real discrimination look for the families with kids and women with kids who get booted, ooh wait, that hasn't happened has it?

**tmarie: "Fat people get kicked off..."
Not to my knowledge they don't. They sometimes have to pay for two seats, but I don't recall any overweight people being kicked off... unless maybe they objected. ** If there isn't enough seats for them to get another, they get kicked off. Kevin Smith, the director, got kicked off in such a case for his fat butt. http://abcnews.go.com/WN/kevin-smith-fat-fly/story?id=9837268

You-Junkinjapan
Yes CAIR seems to be out to pick a fight orchestrating trouble so that it can justify it's existence and once again show muslims in America that they are being the victims of discrimination. All the while they totally ignore their own religion's discrimination. These guys are transparent. But the PC crowd have their sleeping blinders on. Good post hworta. Glad I don't suffer from that

@WilliB
Based on the fact that you managed to involve Hamas somehow, I advise you that instead of doubting others, you might be better of spending some time doubting your logic and feelings.
@ExportExpert
By mean you mean "our"? You and your companion the pilot? To be frank I saw my share of sick people at both sides, east and west. Take it from me, none of you is better that the other. And your highly discriminative remarks just prove my point (along the thumb-ups you managed to receive from people of similar mentality). I could imagine an older version of a person like you complaining about black people riding public buses with their indecent look and manners.

I am not a victim here, and these two creeps have not affected me, making comments on a news site doesnt make me a victim.
The left wing PC brigade on this site are in full swing as usual.
Seeking the limelight and these two muslims got it, now pat yourselves on the back and catch the train.
It was a set up to bring attention to themselves as victims again, getting tired of the way they play the victim all the time.
Making an example of these two was good work by the pilot and we need more people who are prepared to stand up and take the appropriate action.
This pilot deserves a raise a promotion and a medal.

@hworta269
A plane highjaker would wear modern clothes, have no beard, and act cool as much as possible. Look at previous cases (70s and up until the most recent case). Based on your discriminative comments, I do think that CAIR has a real case in the US.

Talk about irony. On their way to a anti discrimination seminar and they get discriminated against

ExportExpert: "I am not a victim here, and these two creeps have not affected me, making comments on a news site doesnt make me a victim."
Yes you are claiming to be a victim. You are complaining about another person's clothing because it offends you, and you are 'sick of it', as though you have no more control over your emotions than an infant crying over diaper rash (but let me guess... if it's Western diaper rash it's okay?).
"Seeking the limelight and these two muslims got it, now pat yourselves on the back and catch the train."
They dressed in traditional garb. Last I checked the US was a free nation -- is there a dress code I missed? Sorry, bud, but you and people who think this way are bigots, and are the exact same as what you rail against, save they never did anything wrong while you have. Racism is ugly.
"This pilot deserves a raise a promotion and a medal."
Nope. He deserves to be fired without any severance package for racial stereotyping, and he will be let go, I'm quite sure. Rightly so.
Here's a quick question for you... do women who don't dress from head to toe in black deserve to be stoned to death? some cultures find any exposure, or even eye-contact, to be godless and will stone you to death for it -- are women who don't dress in burkas therefore 'seeking the limelight'?
Ah, but my guess is your own arguments won't hold weight when it's the other way around, right? :) Good luck countering.

KariHarukua: "Talk about irony. On their way to a anti discrimination seminar and they get discriminated against"
It would only be irony if you wouldn't expect it from bigots. Just look at a bunch of the comments and you know this kind of thing will happen again, hence it is not ironic. Hypocritical of a lot of Americans.... absolutely! Ironic, I don't think so.

smithinjapan are you the same person hailing the great NK leader Kim Jong and claiming bin laden was murdered? no wonder you are supporting these two trouble makers on the delta flight, you are left wing as possible.
people like you are helping to destroy the west.
1

ExportExpert, I agree with you here, but don't think the pilot deserves a raise and a medal. LOL!
I'm not prejucdice at all, but when I board flights, I do tend to get a little nervous when I see another passenger that appears to be from the Middle East. I know it's not the right mentality and sounds hypocritical in a way, but it's a subconsious feeling that I get when I fly. I know alot of my friends have the same feelings too. I haven't been on a flight where a passenger has worn the traditional clothing yet, but it's sad to admit, but I'd probably feel a little more uncomfortable with them doing so.

If the two imams don't like things in the US they should leave. Go live in countries where the dishdasha or supposedly traditional Arabic clothing is worn and even celebrated. Forsake airplanes. Travel like the founder of their cult did.

Relax. This is two Mohammedans out of the 310 million people (all races and creeds, a plurality unmatched in the W hemisphere) in America. They are able to present their case in a court of law. It's not like these two were rounded up along with thousands of others by OUR gov't simply for being Lebanese and Muslim, as happens north of our border. Try and maintain some perspective.

The Truth Matters
What the Delta pilot did was inexcusable.
The people supporting the Delta pilot here are showing their own racism against arabs, which is sad that the moderators let stand.

ExportExpert: It's amusing you use 'expert' in your name when you claim yourself to be a victim of everyone else's actions. If someone dresses the way you don't like you are the victim of assault, as is the case here -- you have no control over your own life, and these two men who dress based on their beliefs have beaten you without laying a hand on you. You sad, sad man.

Screw these 2 idiots! If they are real Indians, they would know what would happen to them in India for pulling this kind of stunt, the police would probably beat them to a pulp or a crowd of angry non Muslim Indians would surround them and all hell would brake loose! Now, these 2 fools wanted to be funny in the USA after 9/11?? Go out to a real small town in the middle of the Bible belt US south?? I think they were doing it on purpose to attract more attention to their cause, get USA TODAY, not JT, but CNN, FOX etc..and get tv/radio and internet air time and say, look at those Americans, how racist, how scared they are of your regular peace loving Muslim, etc..but as for me, I think they are full of crap! After 9/11 in the USA, better to be safe than sorry! You can not stop a plane at 30,000 feet up in the air and say, geez we gots some psycho terrorists on board, lets stop on that cloud over there and let them off?? No way, give real terrorists the chance, they will cut your throat, tongue right out and yell that their god is great and put it up on youtube! So I say, DELTA, congratulations!!
