IMO, just as barbaric as many posters here demanding "eye for an eye", "5-10min with the perp", "death penalty", "wish he gets raped daily in prison", etc.
This is their justice system and I guess he knew what he punishment would be when he did it.
As they say don't want to do the time don't do the crime.
