I hope the tobacco companies lose this cause all those bright colors are all about attracting new users. Big Tobacco needs some humility.

guess same could be said for: Alcoholic drinks, cakes, cookies, chips, McDonalds, Coke, ......................... It is not the government, nor your, right nor responsibility to manage and manipulate my life!

Or, just issue us all black jackets and Mao hats, allow ONE kid per couple and control every move and thought.

Australia should just threaten stricter measures and put these companies in their place. It's up to the government, not tobacco companies, to make and pass or reject laws, and here they passed one. If there's any question, ask the people what they think by putting it to a vote of some kind.

It's a ridiculous law, and an egregious breach of freedom. As if anyone alive doesnt know that smoking is unhealthy...

The government really has no business wasting time of this kind of "feel good" measure that has no benefit. People can "vote" on it every day, by not buying the product in question.

I would be against this as buying cigarettes should be a choice but tobacco companies game the system by adding addictive chemicals so screw them, I'm all for the ugly logos. I hope Imperial Tobacco loses here.

I hope the tobacco companies lose

And I hope they win... not because I like tobacco (I think it should be banned), but because the government has no right to do what it is doing. There are only two legitimate courses of action:

    1) Ban tobacco on health grounds,

    2) Allow tobacco to be sold and tax it appropriately.

The government has no place interfering with advertising of a legal product to a legal consumer, so long as there is no fraud involved.

The government should just ban the sale of tobacco. Or, threaten it, then see how quickly these fag pushers accept this comical legislation.

Japan's move on smoking is increasing the tax on tobacco for the past several years. Comparing to other countries, the prices here are ridiculously high. Another smart move by the Japanese government was the implementation of non-smoking zones in crowded areas including train stations, shopping districts and other places. Restaurants have smoking and non-smoking areas.

Many have quit smoking due to the latest 110 yen tax increase for tobacco products, and many others are controlling the urge to smoke, specially in designated non-smoking areas (although some people still do smoke in these zones, it's drastically fewer).

I am on the side of the tobacco companies here, and I don´t even smoke.

Ridiculous and insulting law, prohibing legal companies selling a legal product from using their own logo.

On a related thought, the only people who really, really benefit from this idiotic law are the Chinese counterfitters.
