Kind of feel bad for the Romero's, but why did they not just go to an adoption agency.

“Kind of feel bad for the Romero's, but why did they not just go to an adoption agency.”
Agree with you, but have to add that I really do feel bad for the kids, they seem to have finally found a good home only to find that its not a legal one. However we look at it they were better off with the Romeros than anything else that seems to be on offer. The father who didn’t notice that they were missing now wants them, the mother that gave them away is on her way back from where ever & they are in state care. Whatever way this is handled no good can come of it.

I cant believe these kids have had to go threw this. The Romero's might have been their last salvation.
Come on people its 2009 and we still act like Neanderthals.

You never met the Romeros, nor have you met Keith Dupre. Your own question about the adoption agency should give you some healthy doubt about them. Anyway, the Romeros already got kids to take care of. No difference if they adopt more kids.
So old Keith says they were dressed well? What does that prove? Seemed to be treated well? Well, Whats it been? A week? Anything could have happened in a month or a year.
Another reason do doubt the "authorities":
Yeah. 4 and 5 years old. I am sure they "made" that claim. Not a chance they were led to giving indications of abuse by overzealous people who see abuse everywhere. We have had some extremely spurious claims of abuse in America and people jailed over them. We have some real nutjobs leading the questioning of kids in cases like these, and when I say "leading", I mean in every sense of the word.
So, any sympathy for Greenwell? She has to take care of kids for over a year that she was just supposed to be babysitting. Without a whole lot more info, I am just as sympathetic to her as the Romeros.
The only ones I truly feel sorry for at this point are the kids. State custody is an awful place for a kid to be.

I wonder what the bird thought about this arrangement? -Did he feel he was worth more than 2 kids or less?

this story and all angles are sick. the woman selling the kids the woman who was their mom the dead beat father who only now is considering getting custody and the couple trying to adopt. Why didn't they use an agency? well I bet there is a the story isn't telling but maybe neither of them were considered qualified to be adoptive parents (I have heard that some states are very very strict to an almost incredible point which is why many go overseas) but I am willing to think low income or a past arrest. the police with this 4 and 5yo accusations of sex abuse
sick.

dodgy stuff but if the Romeros were kind caring people then perhaps these kids had a chance for a happy home life, their real mum ditched them, trucker lady didnt want them, Romeros did. Not ideal but there you go. I have heard of wierder things.

Damn, it seems that the market value of kids has declined as a result of the economic downturn. The last time I tried to sell our kids, I was at least offered 2 pigs and goat (lol).

Must have been a really nice bird...

Also, a talking parrot would make a great sidekick for a crusty old female trucker.

For what? To adopt these kids or other kids?
Anyway, the trucker has been "babysitting" for over a year, so why not just call what the Romeros did "babysitting" as well? It was just a week, and paperwork was supposed to be filed. Just because money and goods were exchanged just not necessarily make it a sale.
I imagine that Greenwell wanted to recoup some losses from a year of "babysitting", and a damn parrot is a poor consolation prize for a year of feeding two kids. You think the state would have helped her out?
Still, it looks like Greenwell lied. But then, ultimately, it was the mother that set the whole stage. I too would be hesitant to hand over kids to the state.

Kids only need looking for for about 20 years, then they're their own responsibility. A parrot still needs attention 50 years down the road.

Oh now Cleo you know fully well some people never leave home well past 60 in japan.
State care = Gladiator school
Likeitis your pretty spot on with this. Its just sad that these kids will probably never see happiness.

But DXXJP, these kids ain't in Japan, they's in Louisiana.
I'd love to have a parrot. If only I were 20 again.

For the 2 kids I would have personally traded for a chimp (price going down because of Connecticut liberals and their face chewing chimps) and tried the "Every which way but loose" thing, but with the trucker twist.
Forget about the State-State laws since no Cop would be dumb enough to go after a face chewing chimp now. I would never lock my truck either -just a warning sticker that inside their is a face-chewing chimp.

They did also get two draft picks and were able to free up some salary cap space. So...there is that.

Truly a crazy story but it sounds like the kids would have been better off with the would be adoptive parents than the lady who wanted to trade them even up for a bird. This is a true Jerry Springer moment.
