Does this mean that Antarctic fishing is quite common? South Korean and Russian vessels, what other nations are fishing down there, despite the extreme cold.

Fishing there is common. Lots of Plankton so many fishes, etc feed there.
Waiting for Russia and S.Korea to resume commercial whaling(both are very eager to do so), Russia already does a fair bit of whale hunting.
Isn't there also a NZ ship that is breaking up right now? Recall something from the news today and that would be a 2nd oil-spill there.

So I guess the SSCS is on the rigth spot to help clean up the spill and avoid further pollution of the Antarctic waters.

It's summer in the Southern Hemisphere right now, so it's not as cold as it could be.

And the 'researchers' are not? They've got scientists and military on board, much better prepared to deal with an oil spill.
Assuming they're not too busy spilling whale blood.

I'd say the onus would be on the self proclaimed shepherds of the sea. No?

USNinJapan2 - The 'onus' in the first instance is surely on those who made the mess in the first place? Since after being rescued from a fire they're likely in no fit state, I would hope all those with the ability to help and in the vicinity, would help.
