3 weeks from now we'll read of how they were forced to go into hiding because "progressive" animal rights nutters want them dead.

That's messed up. With a metal rod?

Did the teacher just sit there and watch?

It starts with animals, then smaller younger kids, then women, then homeless people.

Nip it in the bud I say! Nip it!

how do you expect kids here to know any better? Teachers and Parents want to be their friends not show them right from wrong from fear of conflict and being hung out to dry by others!

No one teaches them anything and there are no visible consequences if you do something wrong...they will say they saw it on anime and claim they were crazy..then all is forgiven..released and forgotten.

Also, depends if their families are connected to see what happens...

Bunch of moronic kids. Why kill a defenseless animal? I say give them the 2 years of prison time.

flipdinip what are you talking about ? Aussie schools are by no means perfect but the criticisms youre making and particularly your opening sentence beggars belief.13 year old kids dont know any better ???? They bludgeoned an animal to death, you dont have to TEACH people not to do that.

There's an if here? They were seen beating an animal to death.

Maybe they'd been watching videos of their fathers culling kangaroos and beating the joeys' brains out on a car bumper. Maybe they thought it was part of their culture.

But Klein2 is right; miserable little toerags who get their kicks from hurting animals move on to hurting little kids and others unable to defend themselves. A slap on the wrist and a bit of community service isn't going to cut it; they need a good five years in Borstal, with psychiatric treatment.

think youre absolutely right..this kind of behaviour including cruelty to animals at an early age has a tendency to lead to more serious incidents in later life.or it may also be that these kids have issues stemming from abuse and this is why they in turn are inflicting hurt on animals and eventually people.

Guys at my school went out shooting kangaroos for fun every second weekend.

Eight grade is no longer a kid. I doubt this was self defense. Mostly likely they beat the roo to death for the fun of it. Odds are they would not think of doing that a person at all, but hey, doing this to an animal is bad enough. My punishment would be SEVERE.

This is one case I’d like to see decided in kangaroo court.

I read about the story and it's terrible, unfortunately for years it's seemed that if you're below a certain age the worst punishment you can get is a slap on the wrist, and nothing seems likely to change. Everyone becomes outraged for a few days before forgetting about it.

Meh, sad, but I really don't care. Animal rights nutters are going to be horrified and offended. Myself, I don't really see a difference between this, and taking a shotgun to it. Either way its dead.

As a person what has hunted animals and holds little respect for most "amimal rights" groups, these little bastards need to receive some very serious punishment and an education. This is unnacceptable sickening behavior.

Neither do I. If it's for kicks, because it's fun, then the perpetrator is sick whether the weapon of choice is a metal rod, a firearm or a pair of bovver boots. It isn't about 'animal rights'. It's about sick little humans and the abject little pile of excrement they have in place of a brain.

    Who raises kids like these?

    smithinjapan

I'm not sure expulsion would serve them well. Give them a lengthy suspension, during which they get some heavy-duty community work (which they must continue for two years or so), AND give each of the families the maximum $28,000 fine. Keeping them in the school and community will ensure that everyone knows what they did, and they can be watched.

This is some sick stuff, and I agree that at 13 years of age or so these kids need to be SEVERELY punished.

I demand these three teens be whacked on their behinds with a metal rod until they're bawling like babies.

Better yet, put them in a cage with a riled up, full grown adult male kangaroo (no weapons) and see how they fare. Nah... not really.

smith - What, 3 boys against 1 roo? The 3 boys are going to need some more guys to make it a fair fight!

I followed it up with stats.

This is about kids who committed a heinous act, not statements on nations

Hasn't stop you, hasn't it? In any case, my statement is based on statistics with this article as one of the examples. Most, including yours, are based on few examples without any statistics or studies to back it up.

Looks like Aussie kids need to learn some civility....

Something is inherently wrong with a society where 13 year olds think it's ok to beat a defenseless animal to death with a metal rod for no apparent reason. What is wrong with these Aussies? Has the pot run out?

    Helter_Skelter

    Moliner: I don't really see a difference.

So you're essentially saying it doesn't matter if an animal is killed instantaneously or suffers for a period of time, as long as the end result is death. What a strange way of thinking.

Mike: Something is inherently wrong with a society where 13 year olds...

I don't think it has anything to do with the society, since there are laws against animal cruelty. I just think these kids need a harsh lesson in civility.

Studies have shown that kids who abuse animals are likely to grow up to be people abusers.

mikehuntez what would make you think, even for a second, that the actions of 3 rogue 13 year olds represent the mentality of the entire nation ?

stormqueen chill out. It's called "Humour". I'm actually in agreement with cleo's 10:09 post.
