There has to be something seriously messed up with their 'culture' if they have to have it written as a law in order to have sex with their own wives.
Equally disturbing is the part where they need to ask permission to 'leave' the house. So what part of this is NOT slavery?

I have said it a million times: the Afghanis are hopeless. Just let them go back to killing eachother. Next time they harbor a guy like bin Laden, squash them again, focus on the getting the guy, and get out. To heck with this nation building in a nation of loons.

All the very best to young Afghan women who are brave enough to fight for your human rights. It is now or never!

"Some picked up gravel and stones and threw them at the women, while others shouted “Death to the slaves of the Christians!” Female police held hands around the group to create a protective barrier."
I seem to recall people gloating and saying, "Another purple thumb in the eyes of those against the war!" or some such rubbish. Purple thumb in the eye, indeed! Looks like it's shaping up to be all for nothing as many predicted it would, and the proof is not only in the law's passing, but in what happened at this demonstration. Karzai won't do a damn thing about it, and more laws will be passed, then Karzai will lose the next election -- if things last that long -- in favour of a radical Islamist, and once again a dictator as bad as or worse than before will assume the thrown after the regime change. History is beginning to repeat itself... and it's a damn shame. Karzai should be immediately reversing the law and threatening such action (stone throwing, etc.) with jail time. It's supposedly a democracy now, and a better place that it was under the Taliban, so prove it instead of proving it's not.

And kudos to the women for sticking up for themselves despite these sick men.... hopefully more turn out to support your cause and not theirs.

The people of afghanistan has more freedom and safety in the 1980s than presents, thanks to US funding the mujahideen now the Taliaban and the rise of fundamental islamic ideas that ruined the country. The soviets built a good afghanistan, Carter Regan ruined it and Bush stepping on afghanisatn now Obama let the country to loose apart! The US likes collaborating radical countries like Saudi arabia and Pakistan to poison the people of afghanisatn with radicals and dangerous people all around the world! Now Mr Obama said he is helping but the fact is he estabilishing a corrupted government like Karzari he was true puppet and he was just irriating the people pushing them to radicalisms.

Trouble with that strategy is, thousands of people on our turf get killed the next time they harbor a guy like bin Laden.
