KABUL —
At least 30 Taliban fighters and three Afghan soldiers were killed in clashes in southwestern Afghanistan, while three people were killed in a suicide attack in the capital Kabul, officials said Thursday.
Younus Rasouli, deputy governor of Farah Province, said fighting began in the Bala Bluk district of the province late Wednesday after Afghan troops came under attack from a compound. NATO air support was called in and 30 militants were killed after the warplanes bombed the area, he said, adding three Afghan soldiers were also killed and five others wounded. Saido Jan, a member of Farah’s provincial council, however, said several civilians were also killed in the NATO bombardment. In Kabul, a suicide bomber rammed an explosives-packed vehicle into a passing convoy of international forces in Yaka Toot area on the eastern outskirts of the capital Thursday morning, killing three civilians and wounding five others, a spokesman of the Interior Ministry said.
