It's really about time that Cell phone usage during driving be stopped completely. Now that we hae bluetooth all cell phone usage while driving should be pumped through the cars audio, by law. And make the fine for using a handheld cell while driving $1000. That ought to stop it.

Most developed nation have that law. Except of course, the warring ones.

Many places have those laws, doesn't stop people from doing so. I was thinking how the person who was making the call feels. I had to call a friend once, and they were riding on their bikes, and a cop saw it and stopped them for talking while riding on the bike. Yeah it's my friend's fault for talking but I sorta felt a tad responsible for calling them as well.

I'm guessing that we've all talked on the phone while driving, or reached for something under our seat, or looked at the radio for a few extra seconds to change the settings. It's just one of those freak things....it could happen to any of us.

whats even worse than the cell phone use is that the driver was drunk. this is now being reported here in the states. driving drunk with young children in the car. is beyond using the cell phone. this is un speakable of a crime.

This drunk driver, 32-year-old Chanton Jenkins, should have never been free in the first place. He had a criminal record dating back to 1994, when he was charged with possession of a prohibited firearm, a felony. He received deferred adjudication of guilt but his probation was revoked in 1995 after he was convicted of unauthorized absence from a community correctional facility, another felony. In 1997, Jenkins pleaded guilty to felony possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to 10 months in state jail. Five years later, he was again convicted for felony possession of a controlled substance. This time he received a yearlong jail term. Most recently, he pleaded guilty to manufacturing and/or delivering a controlled substance and was sentenced to 10 months in state jail.
