Not to be crass, but I had a flight school buddy who went helos and he used to say, "There's only one thing you can do in a helicopter that's cool. Crash. And you can only do that once..."

All helicopters seem like an engineering disaster to me. There really is very little to do when things go tits up.

Madverts: "All helicopters seem like an engineering disaster to me. There really is very little to do when things go tits up."

I think that holds true for just about every vehicle in the air that has more than a few passengers (you CAN sometimes eject from a jet or parachute from a plane).

Anyway, sad situation. Condolences to the families... these kids never should have been there in the first place.

smith, I'd take my chances gliding in a plane with engine failure, than I would with a helicopter that drops like a stone at the first sign of trouble...

My prayers to the families for their loss.

Also to the troops who knew and worked with these deceased warriors. These men become as close or closer then family. < :-)

I always enjoyed riding in a helicopter. We would make weekly money runs from Fatima AFB to Camp Schwab in northern Okinawa. We had a major who used to get air-sick. The pilots knew about this and when it was her time to make a run they would make her sick on purpose, just to see the queezy look on her face.

But a helicopter comes straight down. No gliding, unless straight down like a rock is gliding.

I've lost too many friends and a cousin in helicopters. Those rides you try to forget about. < :-)
