Why China is mentioned in this news? Does the long hand of China somehow involved in this case?

Yes by the strict "off topic"rules that JT like to enforce the reference to China seems dangerously liberal.Surely baby milk and baby teething syrup are completely different topics. I wonder if there is anybody in Nigeria that has earned an honest days pay for an honest days labour, fraud appears to be the national sport.

Somebody made a buck at the expense of these kids. Bento is right. Just the national sport of fraud going on. Business as usual.

Why mention China? Wow? You really didn't read into the article did you? The chemical diethylene glycol is the substance Chinese factories - including in Nigeria, have been using as an artificial sweetner. It is the same substance that was found in Chinese toothpaste shipped around the world with fake, Made in South Africa, Costa Rica, Nigeria, Panama..." labels - including fake Colgate brand labels. The writer is only avoiding direct implication of a Chinese entity for obvious reasons.

The thing I don't get is WTF is theething formula? I have never heard of anyone in the US drugging up their babies when their teeth start to come in, yet appartently the practice is wide spread in China/elsewhere. The victims seem predomanently poor. Is this merely because the wealthy have access to quality teething drugs, or do only the poor use them in the first place?

Triumvere: The Constant Gardner ring a bell? Foreign pharmaceuticals are testing their products on Africans - the African governments are forced to accept the large scale clinical tests or lose certain foreign market so-called privileges. I was booted out of Zimbabwe for uncovering a similar project in 1985 - lost my citizenship and been stateless ever since. Nigeria had a massive menengitis outbreak in which a major US drugs maker allowed infected kids to be used as control and placibo treated subjects. Hundreds of children died.
