Very, very ominous to say the least. Unfortunate that American and coalition lives continue to be risked for folly and horrendous planning. Rest in peace.

"Militants fired machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and mortars from homes and a mosque"
Then those homes and that mosque are fair targets.

First we have troops in Afghanistan, then we take most of them out and expect the world to pick up the slack. We used to have lots more troops in Afghanistan till george bush wanted to attack Iraq.
Oh yeah, we give Pakistan $10Billion and they have figured out how to take on the Taliban and win a battle without firing a shot.
Maybe if we did what we went in there for to begin with, instead of trying to choose wars to start. < :-)

Sarge,
I know what you're saying and I basically agree. However, I would point out two things:
(1) NATO said the militants fired from homes and a mosque.
(2) Fair targets might not be good targets.

Actually, latest updates state that those who lived in the surrounding villages actually had a role in this attack. Some aided and abetted, some actively participating in the attack. A total coordination all around.
Indeed, very ominous.
