What a mess of a country! Too bad for this courageous, brave British woman. I guess the NATO guys tried, but Afghanistan has been a horrible place for a long, long time, just ask the Russians. RIP UK aid worker.

As usual the American tactic of 'shoot first. ask questions later' results in an epic fail.

Thanks alot, guys. And we are expected to look upon these goons as heroes....?

Aunty how do you know they weren't British soldiers that did the raid? And it was not the soldiers that shot her it was a bomb detonated by the last captor alive who killed her. What were they supposed to do? Knock on the Door and ask to speak to the manager?

Actually they asked questions first and the answers to their questions was that she was in immediate danger and so they decided to act and during that act one of her captors detonated an explosive device that killed her.

Do you have any evidence at all to show that they didn't ask any questions at all? Because it appears they did and the intelligence they received strongly indicated they needed to act.

Do you have any evidence to the contrary other than the official statement as passed down from the pentagon? And as for American intelligence - hasn't that already been demonstrably proven as worthless lies invented to fit an agenda?

Latest reports suggest she was killed by the Americans. So how did they mistake death from an explosive vest for death from an American weapon?

    I rest my case.

How convenient for the Americans to attempt a distortion of the truth. So very typical of this whole unfortunate American-led conflict.

Honestly, she was killed by the American 'rescuers'.

British PM has just made the announcement and appologised.

    Aunty, you go girl !

Anti-American, it seems that the British PM OKed the operation. US special forces went in and a grenade may have been thrown. So far it's inconclusive if it were a US grenade or a bomb. Your automatic response that the US is guilty is only because you want them to be responsible for your Anti-American rhetoric. It is quite possible they did accidentally do that but I don't think that a "rescue mission" would include grenades due to the fact that it could endanger the person you are going to rescue. Let the investigation get some answers before you come to your guilty verdict.

    From the BBC -

the prime minister said new details had come to light suggesting her death may have resulted from a US grenade.

tribal elders negotiating her release had asked Nato not to intervene, to insure they had more time to secure a release.

an Afghan intelligence official told the BBC the US had ignored local police and intelligence recommendations supporting this course of action.

Bad enough for the family to know their daughter was a prisoner of the bad guys, worse for them to know she was killed by the good guys. Horrendous. Poor girl.

kyushujoe, I guess if the world bases their hate on what a few Americans think they are guilty of what JT posters always tell us about how it's wrong to make generalizations and sweeping statements. Now you can't have it both ways can you?

At least this came to light when the Americans fessed up that it could have been a grenade by their own that actually killed her. They didn't try for a cover up.

At least this came to light when the Americans fessed up that it could have been a grenade by their own that actually killed her. They didn't try for a cover up.

The cover-up began when a statement was released to the press that she was killed by a captors suicide vest. They knew from the very start what they had done. What we have now is the start of their face-saving:

    They did it.

We might have done it. Oops.

We actuallly really did do it. Our bad.

    @mike

No problem at all with what happened in Afghanistan: American troops going in selflessly to try to rescue a Scot. Mistakes made, but we're talking about a war-zone for Pete's sake. Unlucky.

Sorry Anti but it was the Americans that notified the Brits about it. They are investigating themselves. That said, civilians that go into war zones take a risk. Both from captors or rescuers. Your rhetoric is just childish.

The idiocy of the the so-called rescuers is apparent:

They are storming an enclosed building - this was reported by the military themselves.

In such a case why would they use lethal grenades when the standard practice for such operations is to use pyrotechnics, stun grenades and flash bangs.

Clearly the use of explosive grenades immediately puts the lives of captives in danger if you can't be absolutely certain where they are located.

Again I'll say this strikes me as typical of the 'shoot first, ask later' American modus operandi.

Fellow captives which were released earlier claim they saw no suicide vests. Local village elders, whom had already negotiated the release of Linda's fellow captives, were, at the time of the assault, negotiating her release with the kidnappers.

Nothing you can concoct as an excuse will hide the fact that this is another US failure in every sense.

By the way, the Americans also killed two Afghan women captives in the raid - this has just been confirmed, too.

Sadly the media didn't see these two deaths are worthy of reporting before now.

I really don't see what AuntyAmerican is so angry about. This story just isn't that big of a deal.
