Off-screen, he was an avid conservationist who was moved by his time in Africa to shine a light on “man’s greed and absolute unwillingness to operate according to Mother Nature’s laws,” he told the AP in 2004.
Ok I'm sorry the man died, but this quote they used is such an idiotic line. We are a part of Nature. Thus what we do, by its very definition goes along with the "laws" of mother nature. I agree with conservation, particularly in Africa where many animals are or were being driven to the point of extinction, but the statement there, was just dumb.

Not at all. This is kind of like the argument you sometimes have with people who believe in god. You ask them why people murder each other or there is war, famine, disease, and general misery in the way we treat each other, and they tell that you that, "God created man in his image, but gave him free will". Well, the difference here of course is that 'mother nature' is a real entity (ie. nature and the environment), and while we are natural beings and a part of nature, the pollution, war, destruction of the environment and extinction of species are not at all 'following nature'.
Anyway, let's not stray too off topic; this thread is, after all, to pay respects to a man who made a number of decent movies while we were younger. His passing is a shame. NATURAL, but a shame.
never saw dirty dancing or ghost coz I hate chick movies but roadhouse and point break were something else. Its a shame he didn't live on when so many others drink like maniacs and smoke a pack a day and live past 80.
thats why I said "when so many others drink and smoke and live past 80" as in comparing. A good lesson for all of us not to abuse alcohol and not to smoke but sad all the same.

Rest in Peace, I was hoping he would beat the odds and beat the cancer

I lost my uncle to the same cancer in July after a 5 month battle. Such an awful and quick cancer. Very sad about Patrick. R.I.P

bobbafet: I think Swayze admitted he was a chain smoker and he did go to rehab for alcohol. It's all luck of the draw I'm afraid.

Patrick Swayze always struck me as being a really nice guy too. Sad to see him go.
I'm surprised by the people who remembered Roadhouse. What a classic.
