This is unconciousable that the george bush administration would allow Afghanistan to sink deeper into a quagmire; American and coalition forces being hit harder and more frequent and commanders wanting more troops, but the Pentagon is playing politics with American soldiers.
Oh sure he can define it, but who would you report it to? The Iraqis are saying we want the helm, which has to mean some success. But it's the level of success I guess. Who will decide when the level of success is adequate?
This is just a game by george bush and John McCain to keep our troops in Iraq in hopes of stealing the Iraqi petroleum reserves. And bush and McCain both know once we've been ousted, it's going to be impossible to get back in at all, especially after Iraq converts over to the Euro for oil.
So we need to get out of Iraq and do the job we started. And do it right, instead of some half ass attempt.
This is kinda like george bush's service to the country, couldn't complete it correctly either. he quit before the job was done there, too. < :-)
One of the reference links for your story, which is so full of facts says:
**Some of the same personnel who worked in the Pentagon's Office of Special Plans (OSP), which reviewed intelligence for evidence allegedly linking Saddam to the al-Qaeda terrorist group and weapons of mass destruction (WMD) programmes before the Iraq invasion, have reportedly been working on a similar effort regarding Syria.
David Warmer, a neo-conservative who has long advocated destabilising Damascus through Lebanon and Iraq, joined Cheney's staff as his Mideast adviser last September.
An administration ally, Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Pat Roberts, also suggested this week that Iraq's alleged WMD stockpiles were transported to Syria before the war.**
This whole story was concocted by the same bunch of criminals who concocted the lies about Iraq. This is the very same people that put together photoshopped pictures for the United Nations.
Don't you just love these statements:
"which reviewed intelligence for evidence allegedly linking Saddam to the al-Qaeda terrorist group and weapons of mass destruction (WMD) programmes before the Iraq invasion"
"also suggested this week that Iraq's alleged WMD stockpiles were transported to Syria before the war."
Not based on facts, but suggested and you believed.
But they did their job. they were the best sales team in the country, along with george bush, doug feith, Gen. Colin Powell. they put out all these lies and Americans were duped into believing.
See what they got us into based on their suggestions.
Also, the couple or three months before george bush attacked Iraq, we were all over the place. We had inspectors. The United Nations had inspectors. The world was watching from every angle that their satelites could monitor.
There was no convoy of trucks or any slipping of all this WMD out of Iraq into Syria with out leaving trace evidence. 10s of Tons of Sarin Gas, remember? < :-)

It's a diversionary tactic.
It is to draw the American troops, or any other coalition, away from Iraq.
Iran still need can go into Iraq to finish their job. Topple Saddam Hussein and his regime and take the oil fields
Since they don't have to do that they just want to take over Iraq and make the two countries one.
This way it is a clear shot to Syria and all of those hidden WMD's tucked inside the mountains.
Of coarse, Mr.Ohbama will make that CHANGE. hAA hAA

Zurg - Syria and all of those hidden WMD's tucked inside the mountains.
I'm sure you have a link for this.
The bush regime would rather have Iraq and Iran all as one country, but that just a republican dream. < :-)

"McCain says he would send additional troops to Afghanistan, though he favors success in Iraq"
As opposed to Obama, who just wants to "end the war."
