War criminals, on all sides. I hope the International Criminal Court gets to work on this soon without political interference from anyone.

The biggest war criminals work for the Israeli state.

More biased press coverage. There is no "war" here, there is a limited response by a disciplined military against constant attacks from the terrorists, who run Gaza. If the IDF was fighting this as a "war", it would be over within a day.

It is disheartening to see how the press buys into the Hamas propaganda slant.

If Hamas wanted "peace", they could have that any time, by recognizing Israel`s right to exist and stop attacking Israeli towns. But of course then it would not be Hamas any more.

"a war that has killed more than 2,100 Palestinians"

Thanks a lot, Hamas, thanks a lot.

Why am I not surprised to hear Netanyahu proclaim an attack targeting a senior Israeli military commander a crime, and then state he is going to tell those commander to increase the number of civilian targets they bomb in Gaza? (In case you missed it, Haaretz, an Israeli news outlet, let the truth about the attack that killed the boy slip out in their article about how Hamas has managed to target such senior commanders repeatedly, leading to several cancelations of planned excursions like the one that got the boy killed in the crossfire.)

Tragic that they can't resolve this. feels like the end of days is creeping closer.

They really don't even have to recognize Israel's right to exist. If they would just stop firing into Israel and building tunnels to attack inside Israel, then Israel would stop firing into Gaza. And with time the restrictions at the border crossing would be eased. All this just predicated on the ceasation of Hamas attacks.

In case you missed it

Interesting that Hamas seems willing to sign up to the ICC, but Israel isn't.

Any theories, fellow posters?

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

@sense, Hamas knows that nobody besides African despots has ever been tried by the ICC?

No, but probably the similar reasons that countries such as the US, China and India aren't members either.

If Israel isn't a member then Palestine's status is irrelevant. Also, as recently as November 2013 the ICC has stated that Palestine is not a 'state' and therefore ineligible for membership. And the ICC cannot look at retroactive actions, meaning that even if Palestine became a member anything that happened before their date of membership would be outside the ICC's jurisdiction.

Thanks, TT.

What's there for Israel to fear then?

I don't understand what Hamas is doing firing their highly ineffectual rockets to provoke an Israeli response. Seems to be completely counterproductive. Isn't accomplishing anything. What's the point?

This is Genocide pure and simple... read Israeli Politician Ayalet Shaked's essat in Facebook about promoting Genocide against all Palestinian including elderly, women and children. Israel's Zionist will not stop until they get rid of every single Palestinians in the region.

If it was Israel's plan to " get rid of every single Palestinians in the region" they could have done so in a two or three days of bombing. the fact they haven't disproves specious claims of it being their plan.

There's a significant number of people who are more than willing to ignore Palestine aggression. So when you take one player out of the equation, then the only thing you have left is Israeli aggression.

Oh yes, nations with issues

Once Palestine is given representation at the ICC, they will open themselves up to legal claims against their violent acts. Why is Israel so opposed?

Normally, we think of taking things to a court of law as the alternative to violence. Why is Israel so opposed, and worried?

and worried?

One individual's belief doesn't make something true.

One individual's belief doesn't make something true.

From the Times of Israel, Mikey:

"The specter of the “State of Palestine” joining the ICC, where it could sue Israeli leaders for war crimes or crimes against humanity, has some officials in Jerusalem worried.

http://www.timesofisrael.com/pa-threatens-to-join-icc-other-international-treaties-over-gaza/

The mere fact of Palestine applying to join the ICC is perceived as a "threat." Tends to add a lot of substance to "beliefs."

From reality yabbadabbadooy:

So Raphael Ahren (one person) claims they are worried. Yet the only quote from any of them says nothing about being worried. And the article he links to saying that "Isreali experts disagree on whether Jerusalem needs to be worried" is an article about Palestinian statehood not Palestine joining the ICC. And when that article does talk for a paragraph or so about the ICC the only quote specifically says they aren't worried.

Sorry, still nothing showing that Israel is worried about the Palestinians joining the ICC.

So Raphael Ahren (one person) claims they are worried.

"They" is plural.

Isreali experts disagree on whether Jerusalem needs to be worried

If "they" (plural) weren't worried, there would be no need for "disagreement." You posted it yourself. Some Israeli experts believe Jerusalem needs to be worried.

Sorry, still nothing showing that Israel is worried about the Palestinians joining the ICC.

Reading with understanding is fundamental, Mikey. If Israel had nothing to worry about, they would wholeheartedly endorse the Palestinians joining the ICC. And we and they know that isn't happening,, now is it?
