Fires and explosions mid-air over densely populated cities......Hmmmmm, I'd ground the planes too! A bit of pro-active planned scheduled maintenance, though, could have averted this kind of fiasco.

Well, this is a do over of the inspections AA did last week. Appearly they didn't follow the check as required. This could have been done during scheduled maintenance but the Texas FAA management were too close to the airlines as SWA and AA and let things slip a bit until congress has a hearing about a month ago and found out that FAA were not forcing to airlines to meet air worthness directives. Nothing like fiying unsafe planes. I remember a couple of years ago flying AA out of Dallas/FtWorth and the plane had a crack on it's wing. It looked like a scratch until you were at 35,0000 and the crack start to separate. I felt like I was on that episode of the Twilight Zone where a gremlin was on the wing.

AA really bites. Their food is lousy and Flight Attendants often ought to be put out to pasture. I really wish there were a more "serious" domestic airline in the US. Yea and Delta isn't much better.

The decision to cancel the flights until the aircraft are checked out is correct.

This was always going to happen eventually. The FAA have been in the pockets of Boeing and the US airlines for far too long.

Just another symptom of cost cutting and lousy service in the US. I had always thought the US was excellent on service but a week in Chicago certainly changed my mind.
