Wow, this is pretty bad. If Pakistan prosecutes someone who was acting in self defense... Thats going to cost them. And it will cost the US too if they allow it.

How do we know it was actually in "self-defense"?

Funny country, the Pakistanis kill each other night and day but when an American defends himself from these same evil criminals, the Taliban etc...have to start making noise, and call for the death of all of the USA and Israel etc...BS! Criminals must be shot dead, the USA is Pakistan's only real friend, more than China etc.. Time to allow big bro USA help out Pakistan by bombing the hell out of the Taliban etc..not just 2 idiot criminals trying to get some easy $$$. Time to translate DIRTY HARRY in Urdu too!

Did you read the article? Apparently the guy said it was self defense, the guys that came to his rescue said it was, and apparently the Pakistani police that arrived on scene determined it was as well. The politicians though decided that Pakistanis were killed, thus the killer, regardless of justification should pay a penalty, and that is not going to be good.

I read that he said it was "self-defense". The others said it was "possible self-defense".
Layman definition of Self-defense is usually very different from the legal definition. Hence why 95+% of claimed self-defenses are thrown out in court.
Plus, self-defense don't give you the right to gun down 2 people.

Yeah, the right thing to do is kill one of two people intending to kill you and let the other one finish you off. Good grief.

Typical response of a person that thinks with their guns and non-mentionable body-parts. So muggers KILL all people they rob?

The consulate sure isn't covering the bloke's bum if they let him be arrested. He must be a contract hire. Maybe contract security?

"The U.S. Embassy has not said what position the man held at the consulate in Lahore, why he was armed or whether he qualifies for diplomatic immunity."
This is the key point. If it's against the law for people to carry firearms, and the man doesn't qualify for diplomatic immunity, then I say the law should indeed be allowed run its course. I THINK, though, that the man should not be sentenced based on the witch-hunt that is clearly going on, but should receive a lesser charge if anything.
Once the US clears up what the man's position was and if he qualifies, that should determine the outcome pretty quickly.

One question though, if Americans back in the USA do not even think of using an ATM in a hard core ghetto etc..why in the hell is this fool, guessing he is white, say blonde and sticking out like the balls on a dog in dark skinned, dark hair country like Pakistan using an ATM?? Dont they have ATMs and such in side the US embassy there?

Here are few facts for you. 1.he was deported from Pakistan one year back.due to his WORK in peshwar region. 2.what the heck he is doing in market? 3.he needs cash for what?there are atms in embassy. 4.why he is rushing after killing? 5.why he is carrying weapon? If Pakistan law can't prosecute him.stop laughing around any mess in the world.if there are double standards God help us. if he found guilty he must punished by law.life time prison.

Update here, the US says the man has diplomatic immunity, and is demanding his immediate release.
