Should have been making a lot of noise while walking.

Title should read "Irresponsible mother, baby killed by elephant in Kenya"

Its not a petting zoo. "Nature" reserve is a euphemism for the "wild outdoors" where you have no business bringing a 1-year old in a stroller.

Truly sad story, but c`mon...elephants, tigers, etc are wild, even in a nature reserve. You take this chance when in the animals territory.

Tragic... I don't think either party is completely without some blame, it's just awful that that woman and her small child had to lose their lives.

    Classic Darwin event. RIP

“We’re not stupid. We know we were in the wild and anything could happen.

    Yes, you are stupid.

A tragic accident but I don't think the resort is to blame. It's just happens like an earthquake does. Once every so many years.

Tatanka is 100% right. What the hell was SHE thinking when she brought that baby with her?! Oh my god!

This was a mother with her calf. Nothing any more dangerous. Maybe the noise might have helped, I just don't think so. < :-)

Sorry, very sad story, but no sympathy for any attempt at blaming the lodge.

You always take maximum care in the bush. There could be extremely wily buffalo or anything in there, with no guaranteed way of escape. Scatter if you will, but that only lessens the odds slightly.

"Hi. We're going on safari in Africa, where there are lions, hyenas, leopards, etc. We're going to bring our baby, who'd make a perfect breakfast for them. But, there's no danger". Apparently the most dangerous thing was having those parents. RIP angel.

Bad way to die, but nature is unpredictable. We are a part of it, not it is a part of us. Take all possible care.

Melia van Laar...said by e-mail Thursday that the hike is suitable for a mother and young child, and that “we always do” warn guests about dangers.

What a nonsensical statement. If there are dangers, then how can it be suitable for a mother and young child? They need to be held liable for this incident.
