America doesn't owe an 'apology' to anyone over this.
Our bloodiest war was fought over this issue.
Hell... African 'royalty' on the west coast of Africa today who are descendents of African 'royalty' who were in the slave business think it's nuts that anyone's askin' them to apologize.
The video clip totally shows her lack of class. That's our secretary of State? Sad. She looks like a bag lady whose bag was just stolen. ...and she wants to be president? That she has to reiterate, "I'M secretary of State, NOT BILL!" reveals a deep inferiority complex and her delusional need to power trip over shadows and ghosts; like a dog barking in the mirror.
Bill may not have been the greatest president or anything, but he was sure as heck a much better speaker than Hilary. She was a fool to get spun up. Especially since her husband is a former president!
There is sufficient grounds for America to apologize. You and I both know that slaves were sold and traded on American soil. That others owe a bigger apology is a different issue.
OssanAmerica, I am aware of the selling of slaves in America, since my ancestors were slaves who were sold. But thatis an internal affair. America stopped the legal importation of slaves around 1801. We along with Britian were in the business of stopping slavers as they sailed to the Americas.
I don't think that it is another issue. The question was asked if the U.S. and the West needed to apologize for colonialism and post colonialism in Africa. America had no colonies in Africa. It did try to start the country of Liberia for freed slaves in an effort to "send them back to Africa" but a funny came up. The freed blacks did not want to go "back to Africa" since they understood their decendants came from there but they were born in America and felt that that was their home, even if they had been slaves.
Belguim really ran a rough hand in the Congo and if any country should apologize it should be them, along with the rest of the European countries that divided Africa into colonies, and after WW2 when they gave up their colonies still exploited them.
You will find that the US at least tried to help out.
Hilary proably feels insecure and sidelined as she does not appear to be calling the shots.
About the slavery. The British sent many English, Irish and Scottish petty criminals to their American colony as indentured slaves to work the tobbacco plantations in Virginia. As friction increased between the colony and the British government, and as many of these white slaves escaped or resisted slavery the "Planters" turned their attention to the cheaper yet stronger and more compliant black slaves as a good source of free labour. With nowhere left to send their white slaves the British began the colonisation of Australia. The British Empire and immense wealth was built on the back of such slavery.
Alphaape. Throughout history the colonists have always prevailed over the indigenous people. Europe had it's South American Indians and its Africans, The British had its American Indians, the Australian Aborigines, the Hawaiians and the Maoris, and today "Israel" has its Palestinians. This is the cruel reality of a superiority complex, and can only be corrected by proper education.
SebastianFlyte,
I never did say that Amerca's hands were clean on the slavery issue. Yes we ran the Indians off their land and the Hawaiians too. But to simply state that the West is bad for disrupting the "noble savages" as you are implying is more of a superiority complex. Many African nations need to come clean about their own internal strife during the time that the slave trade was going on to admit that as a result of many wars and fights over land, the conquerors sold their captives to the Europeans. Also, many of the cultures you mentioned also had their own internal struggles. To think that all American Indians were just one happy group is niave. They warred with each other, and took the sides of Europeans to kill their enemies before that got screwed themself.
No superiority complex from me. I just wish others would look at history objectively, and realize that it is "man's inhumanity to man" and not necessarily the cultural superiority issue that causes much of the strife.
And by the way, if you really want to look at the "superiority" issue, many of the natives thought that the exploring "barbarians" were just that, uncivilized in their opinion and thought that they were superior to the newcomers.
Well, I think we can all agree to disagree here but Hillary needs to speak out on this more often. It has led to debate about slavery in America and about reparations.Kudos to the young man who asked the question.I hope he is referenced in one of Obama's speeches, which are astounding, and fabulous.
Bill has been trampling on Hillary for years and the egomaniac isn't going to stop just because his wife is Secretary of State. Could you just imagine what would be going on if Hillary was president? They would have to lock the first husband up to keep his impulses from destroying her administration!
This is an utter shame to America for a high level politician to snap at a mere college kid in a 3rd world country like this. Ppl say she had jet lag, well if you talked to your English student like that would you get slack for calling it jetlag? Or if you talked to a business client like this, would your boss give you slack when you said "I had jetlag". No. We are expected to conduct ourselves professionally even when we are tired. Yet, shes supposed to be a worldwide experienced traveler so she is supposed to be able to conduct herself as a professional and a good representative of America despite having jetlag. Ive worked in customer service when Ive been as sick as a dog and have had customers CURSING at me because of a mistake someone else made on the other side of the country, but I never raised my voice at them and I always treated customers with courtesy, but Im a little "nobody" and I handled myself 1000 times better than she did and Ive seen other little "nobodies" do likewise. She wasnt cursed at. She was a guest and treated her host like trash. Jetlag is not an excuse for a Secretary of State to be rude and hateful. If she cant handle jetlag, she needs to step down from the job b/c I dont want someone like this representing me and my fellow Americans b/c this is not the way most Americans are.

I don't blame her for being annoyed, Bill did steal the spotlight with the NK hostage release.

She should have handled the question with more tact and diplomacy instead of sounding like a petulant child.

"Secretary of the Bills" or "Secretary to Bill"?
Either way, no wonder she is getting upset.

She was tired and irritable. Let's cut the bag lady a break. But I agree, thank GOD she didn't become President.
