Chavez is nothing more than a Latino Hitler wanna be

A problem for Venezuelans to resolve.

I expect him to open death/labor camps really soon, if he hasn't already. He is turning into the typical leftist dictator, using propaganda and murder to force his way.

Odogma
If you are young lefty in the burbs of an American or Canadian city, getting back at your folks and your teachers and what not, is Chavez still a sugar daddy figure for your movement?
0
yabits
No way. Although a 7-hour speech might qualify as torture.
0
yabits
They probably wouldn't pose such a simple-minded question.

Molenir
Oh, because no other lefty has ever turned to the forced labor/execution squad route right. Ah, wait, no just about all of them have. He's shutting down freedom of speech, he's shutting down freedom of expression. He's seizing property, and shutting down property rights. Is it really that much of a stretch to think he could go one step further?

[RCTV switched to cable in 2007 after the government refused to renew its license for regular airwaves. Chavez accused the station of plotting against him and supporting a failed 2002 coup.]
What's gotten into this man? Syphilis?
[Chavez regularly uses that legal power to force the country’s broadcast TV and radio stations to carry his marathon speeches, which can last up to seven hours.]
What a dork this guy is. I couldn't imagine 7 hours of BS about how everyone is against him. No wonder with the kinds of things that come out of his mouth. They better cull this idiot soon.

yabits:
Might?!?
Molenir:
Just last week, I saw an article on Chavez taking over (nationalizing) a company that was owned by the French.
bushlover:
Also last week, I saw another article where Chavez claimed the U.S. caused the earthquake in Haiti with their "earthquake machine". Which puts him in good(?) company with Pat Robertson (pact with Satan) and Danny Glover (Global Climate Change). In Hugo's case, it might've been towards the end of one of his marathon speeches. Or maybe he's just a paranoid idiot too.
Fortunately, all Obama can do is whine about FoxNews. Ironically while Air America goes under (no more children's charities to embezzle from, I suppose).

Molenir,
As opposed to the kind and benevolent hand of those typical rightist dictators.

Odogma - Q. If you are young lefty in the burbs of an American or Canadian city, getting back at your folks and your teachers and what not, is Chavez still a sugar daddy figure for your movement?
Yabits - A. They probably wouldn't pose such a simple-minded question.
Well then, you'll have to take the initiative, ask the basic but tough questions that need asking.

Next they will forcing their people to watch it.

It is the typical behaviour of a totalitarian ideology, be leftist, rightist, or religious.
Chavez is acting on the standard playbook.

Madverts
Molenir,
"He is turning into the typical leftist dictator"
You mean right-wing dictators behave in a different manner?
WilliB is correct.
0
Molenir
That was shallow of you.
What WilliB said. The fact that he's a leftist socialist dictator, doesn't excuse other totalitarian facists who might follow a rightist ideal from the same behavior.
Obviously.

Right-wing dictators? Like who?

yabits
Seriously, you have no idea about this? You can pick nearly any country in the hemisphere south of Mexico -- which has had its share of dictators -- and at some time in the past 50 years they have been under the thumb of a right-wing dictator.
The most populous country in Central America, Guatemala, has suffered anywhere from 30,000 to 50,000 of its people killed by right-wing dictatorships over the years.

Molenir
I think you're a bit confused. The majority of dictatorships are socialist in nature. Hence the left wing comment. Leftwing, Rightwing though doesn't really matter, as its outside our context. Is like referring to NK as a democratic republic. Its nonsense. When it comes down to it, its like a circle, democracy on top, totalitarianism on the bottom. Go right or left too far, you'll wind up in essentially the same place. Its all about government control however, and thats what the primary difference between left and right in our context is about. Leftists believe in more control, rightists believe in limited government.

So those dictators were for low taxes, smaller government, strong private sector, average citizens owning guns, etc? Fascinating.
0
yabits
No they are not. You have it wrong. One sure sign of how to tell is by looking at the country's military. As we all know, socialists are opposed to a strong military. So any country with a military dictatorship can not be socialist, by definition. There is a reason why "socialism" is a different word from Soviet and Chinese-style "communism." I understand why you want to lump the two together.
Another way to tell, is by looking at the relationship of the government with the United States. If it's truly communist or socialist, the U.S. is more likely to be hostile to it. On the other hand, the U.S. got on famously well with nearly every Latin American right-wing military dictatorships. They killed a lot of their own people, but they were anti-communist.
Not really. Most were oligarchs bent on keeping their people in line, and killing them or making them disappear when they stepped out of line.
0
WhiteHawk
No, that would be pacifists you're thinking of. Socialists have no problem with a strong military, as long as it's their military. How else would you enforce such restrictive policies? The threat of a strong military against a weak population.
That really depends on the administration and congress. Many Democrat politicians are openly fond of socialist/communist/Marxist/Maoist leaders, theories and policies.
Then they weren't right-wing.
Which would make them fascists or totalitarians, but not right-wing.

One example in the region is Costa Rica. Liberal, socialist policies and no military whatsoever. Other examples are Brazil, Argentina and Chile. As their governments became more liberal/left, their militaries shrank. All were under right-wing military dictatorships for decades prior to finally "the people" having enough of them.
OK, name one right-wing government currently in South America.
0
WhiteHawk
And that proves what? You're the one making the blanket statement that socialists oppose having a strong military. Chavez doesn't seem to have a problem with having a military. In fact, he's found them rather useful when he wants to attempt a coup. And do I need to remind you of a certain Austrian-born German wannabe a few decades back? Or do you still believe he was not a socialist?
Those "right-wing" military dictatorships, what did they do? Force people to pay less taxes? Protect private property rights? Go around making people arm themselves for self-defense? How do you consider them right-wing? Just being anti-communist? That wasn't good enough to qualify the Austrian-born German wannabe as right-wing, and it won't work south of the equator either.
According to a Leftist's definition of right-wing, or mine?
0
yabits
Yours, of course.
0
yabits
The more likely a party is to oppose militarism, the more likely they are to be socialist. The vast majority of pacifists are socialist. That does not mean they all are, but socialists can count some pretty good people in their ranks, from Christ to Gandhi to MLK.
Chavez should not have a problem with the military, with an aggressive U.S. to the north. (Ask the U.S.'s former buddy, Manuel Noriega.) The U.S. has made countless attempts to assassinate Castro and successfully killed off a number of South and Central American leaders we didn't like.

WhiteHawk
Yes, according to Chavez, the U.S. is out to get him. (Never mind that there are CITGO gas stations all over our country.) Also according to Chavez, the U.S. delivery of aid to Haiti is actually a military invasion, following the U.S. causing the earthquake with their secret earthquake-making-machine.
0
yabits
Chavez has already survived one U.S.-supported coup. It is only because so many Venezuelans support him that he was restored to power.
So, what is your example of a right-wing government in South America?
0
WhiteHawk
I admit that I am not familiar enough with South American governments to name one. But that was not my question anyway. My question was for those complaining about right-wing dictators to name them. And nobody has.
