I feel sorry for these people, especially the kids, but I have to agree with the comments above.

Unbelievable, these people cannot accept the responsibility lies with those who tried to enter the country illegally.

Australia is not at fault for the actions of these fools in a rickety boat.

don't see how the government could have a duty to them if they're not citizens...

I always enjoy watching Scott Morrison foaming at the mouth... the scary thing is that some people think he may actually become leader of the liberal party one day....

I think we all have a "duty" to help others, but you can't help them if they are going to be in the conditions described in the story.

Case Dismissed, as they were ILLEGALLY entering the country. Another important legal aspect everyone need to know is that:

Sure, people have the right to bring cases to court—we are a free country

Almost as stupid as the burglars in the US who are sometimes and somehow allowed to sue homeowners when they cut themselves on windows as they break in!

“””Human rights lawyer George Newhouse has launched legal action in the New South Wales state Supreme Court on behalf of eight families, claiming the government failed to maintain a proper lookout.”””

What the hell who will know in advance they will come on unseaworthy boat and during the severe storm without notice?

The immigration and Human right lawyers their professional is in dire situation due to lack of asylum seekers arrived in Australia.

No win no fees guaranty from desperate lawyer has attraction for hopeless and penniless Asylum seekers to agree to sue Australian Government.

I have no doubt majority Australian public except Green and Labor supporters will be outraged and disgusting by asylum seekers suing Australian Government. I think Australian Government lawyers must ask court for advance Security for costs from plaintiff. The Australian tax payers should not foot the bill of Plaintiff legal cost if they lost the case.
