Aussie pub offers free drinks to women who take off panties
MELBOURNE —
An Australian pub has come under fire for offering free drinks to women who take off their panties and hang them on a rail above the bar.
The Saint Hotel in Melbourne promoted its offer as “No undie Sunday,” with a notorious paparazzi picture of U.S. singer Britney Spears getting out of a car wearing no knickers.
The advertisement in an entertainment magazine offers a free glass of champagne to women who “flash bra or undies to bar staff.”
Those who go further and “hang your undies on the line above the bar” win $50 worth of free drinks.
Politicians and the hotel industry accused the management of sexism and “inappropriate” behavior.
“In this day and age, in 2008, to be promoting the drinking of alcohol along those lines, I just think is part of a bygone era,” said Victoria state’s acting Premier Rob Hulls.
The same hotel drew criticism in June when it employed a shirtless dwarf to pour shots of liquor down the throats of patrons.

I'm sure many think this a harmless and innocent fun. Sounds dumb to me, but not fair to tar the entire country with the brush, methinks.

I will recommend Google, what is so terrible about this place, there were plenty of "No-pan-kissa" (no panty tea/coffe house) in Japan during bubble days !

Gotta love the Aussies! First an "Ugly women come to our town campaign" and now giving drinks to women who go Commando. Class!

I'm so glad this is only offered to women. Imagine what that line of undies would look like if guys could get $50 in drinks. Ugh.

I know some girls that would put on 5 pairs of undies before going to the bar so that they and their friends could get drunk for $200.... but I am an aussie

A common trait among "sticks in the mud" is an inability to mind their own business. I think of it as the "misery loves company" principle, where they do no allow you to have any fun because they are not having any fun. A sad group of people.
The same people who complained probably would not hire the dwarf to do anything at all. So why are they complaining. Because its demeaning to the dwarf? What is really demeaning is not being able to get a job based on your stature. If they are not doing something like this they are either in the circus or working as actors in fantasy movies. Dwarves must eat too.
The only problem I have with the underwear thing is that about half of all women I would prefer keep their panties on when near me.

Here's the website for the pub. Where it is St Kilda in Melbourne is known for it's risque venues.

They have a bar like this in Toronto called the "Loose Moose" only it involves a bra. If you take your bra off - hang it on the bar you get free pitchers of beer for the night and a gift certificate for $25 at a lingere store to buy a new bra.
I did it...free beer is free beer. Just wear an old bra, get a new one with the gift certificate! Lighten up naysayers!

Did they accept 'man bras '??

Having been to quite a number of local Aussie pubs over the years and various visits, I think I'll avoid the place.
Anyway, it is indeed the act of a bygone era, whether meant in 'fun' or not.

How many ladies went into the restroom and then pulled an old pair out of their pockets and kept their real ones on? I think more investigation needs be done.

I'm sure the public health law being broken in a place serving food and drink is only one of several laws applicable to the story. Serving staff couldn't be thrilled to have to speculate when the underwear would fall off the bar rail. Not like management would have provided servers with hand protection i.e. gloves.
