I feel better now that I've had my daily swine flu story.

This is totally out of hand. Is there any evidence that it's mutating into something really bad? They should not try to scare the public with the "worst-case scenario" talk.

Thanks for saying swine flu instead of new flu JT.

All this talk about worst case scenarios is just idle speculation. It could be the next black plague or it could peeter out gradually. Nobody knows, it's just the media trying to scare us into watching the news and buying more stuff.

I've noticed a lot less reporting in Japan. The three biggest schools in my town, which is the 3rd biggest in the prefecture, are closed with dozens of cases each - apparently not newsworthy.

From an evolutionary point of view, the fitness of the flu would be how transmissible it is. It also helps if it doesn't kill the host. I expect the flu will lessen in severity in the future (rare mutations that make it stronger excepted)

The latest data I could find from 2007 shows that in that year 2,623 people in Australia died from influenza and pneumonia out of 10,403 cases. The ooga-booga scare article above reports that a grand total of 24 people have dies from 11,194 confirmed cases of swine flu-related illnesses which typically includes pneumonia.
