What do you mean he can't be named for legal reasons? His name and picture are all over the UK press......

Somebody needs to rewrite this article. Its about as clear as mud. Especially something other than possessive relative pronouns in many places would help immensely.

So I gather that Gammy has a twin sister, and that both were born by a surrogate, and that the blood father was convicted for molesting girls some decades ago.

So anyway, is it illegal for convicted molesters to have kids now? Even after they have served their time? Even 20 and 30 years after the crime? Or is it just illegal for them to keep their own children? Or only if they are a certain sex? Or does it only apply when a surrogate is used?

Looks to me like the state is way overstepping itself, but that is nothing new for child welfare services. They have taken away entire communities of children with the "pedophile" rallying call.

If we start taking kids away on the basis of what "might" happen, what next? I sometimes yell, but rarely at my child. I sometimes break and throw things, but never at my child. But if a neighbor reports these things, are they going to take my child away on the basis that I may one day yell at my child too much or throw something at my child?

Think before you answer. Think a lot.

Thai health authorities say it is illegal to pay for surrogacy in the kingdom and that someone who agrees to carry a baby must be related to the intended parents.

Fascinating that in Japan the industry argues for strangers and anonymity. We just had an article about that.

Maybe they should!

LOL! The news reports say he was jailed for three years for molesting two girls under the age of 10 when he was in his 20s. He was also accused in 1997 of another six charges of indecently dealing with a child and reportedly imprisoned for 18 months.

Yeah, this dude is definitely a creep, but I'm not sure about the wife. I would imagine she will do what is necessary to support her meal ticket.

This is very sick! Why in the heck is Australia allowing KNOWN pedophiles to go to other countries to adopt children?? If Australia does KNOW it should INFORMA Thailand, etc..so these other countries can make sure NOT to allow these dirty pigs near any children! Thailand, and the INTERPOL etc...should be giving the heads up to each other. Does anyone here know if this is already happening??

What a terrible example of human behavior. Pay someone a lot of money to have a baby for them and then say, "No thanks, he isn't up to my standards, but I'll take this other one." Babies becoming products.

Both children should be adopted in Australia. Gammy will be better off his future in Australia because he needs special health care and special education which Thai does not have it. I respect surrogate mother wish but in reality $ 200,000 is nothing for child with Down syndrome who needs special treatment and care. In long tern, Gammy will have quality life in Australia.

Gammy needs long tern care and treatment for heart and other diseases.

Gammy needs long tern care and treatment for heart and other diseases.

It maybe better for Gammy to have a short uncertain life with someone who truly loves him than a long life with people who mostly care about his well being.

BTW, the fact that they chose to name the child Gammy when he is not fully healthy is also a bit random.

In Australia, many Children have been killed by their lunatic parents every year. According media, Gammy biological father was a pedophile. NSW Community service minister Pru Goward is still in her job despite many innocent kids have been butchered on her watch. She has been her job for many years even bombardment of criticism from media. There is difference between Australia and Thai is pampering incompetent and well connected bureaucrats in Oz. Thai medical standard has improved a lot and not much different from Australia now.

200K medical bill can run out quickly in Oz. Universal health care ( medicare) is not effective for special elective surgery such as lung infection and heart impairment.

In Thailand, killing own off spring is extremely rare. Even Gammy and his sister will be under community care of Australia, they can not watch and protect them for 24 hrs and 7 days. There were many losses of innocent lives in oz under home and community care service.

Sending Gammy to Australia may cause the unthinkable consequence. At the moment, he is safer and well cared by his surrogate mother. No one can replace her maternal instinct and protectiveness of that unlucky child.

It subsequently emerged that he was convicted in the 1990s on 3 of 22 child sex abuse charges involving girls as young as 7, state broadcaster ABC reported.

It is really hard to believe the father has changed. Put the daughter into protective custody becuSe he appears to be a real scumbag.
