Abbott is a buffoon and an embarrassment. How about investing some serious money in renewable energy? This is a man who believes coal is the future of Australia's power generation! The sooner he is rolled by his own conservatives - which is a matter of when not if - the better.

I am pro nuclear.

That's just outright stupid like Abbott...............The best way is my way.

The carbon tax was stupid. They made a big biz $5 billion dollar tax, and that tax paid for the public and the cost of carbon. The power companies only spent $80 million pa on green energy, and the tax money wasted.

What's the point of making a $% billion dollar tax, and only putting up $80 million dollars worth. That's like giving someone $5 billion and they hand you $80 million... A big w t f.

You make a tax of $5 billion again, you own the solar plants and buy $5 billion worth pa every year. A takeover of the power market will be in the making. You can see the AU green within 20 years and can cut the cost of living. You charge $5 billion pa and will make billions pa to buy even more green energy tech. Within 17 years AU will be 100% green and you run the market saving the public 30+% = mass money.

After 5 years the income would be big, so each year after the 7 year mark, the Gov would buy $8 - $9 billion dollars worth. Au would be green in around 15 years or so. You can do about 1 million houses cost about $5 billion dollars. You have to take into account old and poof people only use F all power. As some people need $10k systems, old people only need $2.500 systems / amount of green power. So it works out.

The best part here is that millions of houses already have green power in AU. We would next be looking at an electric hot water and an oven scheme to cut the cost of living taking away another bill and connection fee. Gas cost more than power now, and will 2 fold once the Gov does this. We are talking about first home grants giving people Electric hot water and oven systems and cash. We are talking about getting the people to buy electric systems. We will cut the cost of power, get rid of a bill, and go green.

The EU ans AU governments have know idea how to do the job right the first time.

If anyone knows how the EU carbon ax works, please tell me. I take it its the same as the failed AU tax, and they could go green 10 times faster and cut the cost of living.

The EU also needs to rid demand from Russia. Their new carbon tax must do the same. If big biz pay it and the people. The Gov must scrap the carbon tax, then make its own green tax. They can then do the above and go green super fast.

If your going top vote down, say why and why it will not work? This is the best Idea there is and its rolistik and will only take 15 - 20 years at most.

Is there any hard evidence that human-made carbon emissions are significantly altering the Earth's climate?

The argument for and against carbon emissions are OK to have. We must continuously have doubt and provide differing and controversial ideas in order to find better ways to survive. However, we already know that there are better alternative energy sources to coal, oil and nuclear. In fact, there were and are alternatives that could have been already in place many years ago. Just that for political and economic reasons as well as technological reasons, they were not introduced and used. Japanese automakers' hydrogen driven auto is one of them. The organic waste to methane and other clean fuel gasses is another.

The problem has been the consumption and use of energy. Population explosion all over the world and use of energy convertible to electricity to run all of the technologically advanced machines and devices far exceeds the capability and availability of alternative energy sources today. The oil and coal producers have made sure of that so far.

However that scene is changing and even the fossil fuel giants are trying to capture the alternative fuel and energy source markets. Technology has advanced enough to allow for major changes in energy resources.

Current safety and health hazards aside, nuclear can be the most efficient source of energy for centuries to come, provided the current system originated and based on US technology giant GE is abandoned. Several countries including Japan has its own nuclear technology if allowed by the world financial and political powers would resolve much of the controversial "risks" relating to safety and hazard as experienced by Chernobyl and Fukushima. Just that the "life span" of most of the generation plants existing today is still in the future and the investment although fully recovered by most plants, were huge and the companies know that they can make much more profits without further investment.

However, the new technology, especially the one that was developed in Japan if installed new today will not only require less investment, but is also more efficient, reliable and safe when compared to the current existing generation plants. One reason why all other nations of the world are coming to Japan for its nuclear capability, even with the problem faced at Fukushima. (Compare it with the bullet train technology and how it affects the world today.) The only problem would be public acceptance and the pace or rate at which alternative energy can replace the current nuclear plants. (For details you may want to contact the Japanese government agencies responsible for it. The problem is that they may not want to discuss all this due to Fukushima and international concerns. I got it from a non-disclosable source.)

Putting all politics aside, so for the immediate or near future, the value of a nuclear plant cannot be dismissed.

For Australia, as with France, if coal and oil is a problem, nuclear energy will be the most efficient one for the near future.

For Japan, that is another story. As with Germany, alternative energy technology is moving much quicker that other nations and have much less territory (space to cover) with a heavily concentrated population and a well designed infrastructure to be able to graduate from nuclear power generation within decades.

Is there any hard evidence that human-made carbon emissions are significantly altering the Earth's climate?

Serrano, no one exactly knew about that and they don't have any deviance. However, if you're opposing those idiots Climate change experts who believe CO2 was culprit of global warming will treat you like outcast and leper.

The earth's climate has been changing for millions of years. Now the Climate Experts said CO2 and Methane gas in atmosphere was highest in 80,000 years. Also Climate Experts predicted about what will happen in next 100 years to earth. How can they predict what will happen in next 100 years or 1000 years even they can't tell what exactly temperature will be in next year? All their predictions were wrong in the past and they don't confess it. If they confessed they were wrong about on Global warming theory and then they will lose their meaty salary job and lucrative business opportunity in renewable energy sector where they investing. Obama had said global warming is threatening Great Barrier Reef future to school children in Brisbane. Starfishes are threatening Great Barrier Reef than unfounded Global Warming theory. He ignored currently American peoples are like a frozen chicken from Super Market in America.

Thanks to climate changing on earth starting from the day of earth was born, so today we are here otherwise the earth is same like other planets in Universe and we won’t be here today.

I don't believe CO2 and other gases in our atmosphere were causing warming to the earth. I do believe CO2 and other gases can cause cancer and respiratory disease in human. CO2 and other carcinogen substances are damaging our earth's environment and our health.

No one has talking seriously about deforestation in Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Burma and other nations. We need to stop deforestation and stop buying Timber products and Palm Oil. We need to plant billions of trees and stop cutting down rain forest. This is an only solution for healthy earth for human.

@Serrano "Is there any hard evidence that human-made carbon emissions are significantly altering the Earth's climate?"

Well 30 years ago everyone said the same about ozone layer (CFCs). 30 years ago people said that was BS and scientist were wrong. As it turned out 30 years on after banning (CFCs), the ozone layer its now making a recovery.

The point is the earth can be damaged, like people after looking at Tony Abbott in budgie. They got it right last time when everyone said BS. There is 100% proof the earth can be damaged so we can't get it wrong.

At the end of the day people breathing in carbon get sick cancer and it makes heath problems. We need to go green either way.

There is proof a type of carbon can kill the earth directly.........So clearly it can be true.

What a lot of Garbage Australia Is supposed to be a nuclear free Zone. Only the People can decide this. Not The Person that lies in his speeches then does the opposite to what he says. Politicly Tony Abbott is a Liability on Australia He needs removing before he completely destroys Australia's way of life.
