Still not a place to go visit yet. Mission accomplished not.

Of course, if the United States had invaded earlier, this kind of thing might have been avoided (sarcasm).

This is the result of 10 year war... a trillion dollars spent, and now Iraq is actually closer to Iran than ever before. Thanks a lot George Bush!! You suck!!

Afghanistan is another we should leave alone... I've been there, in both countries... boots on the ground, had my share of rough spots. We don't belong there and we can't re-educate them to suit our needs. Now we want to tangle with Iran,,, I think somebody who wears a star has already drawn the line.... we have reached the limtis of our escapades... we're on the bear's borders now....and the bear has awakened.

@bello420 I agree with you completely. The old adage, "can lead a horse to water but can't make them drink" applies to these countries. The US and Nato tried to give these countries some tools to bring themselves up, but the society and culture too many of them want to muck about in the sewage and dirt with no advancement whatsoever. Those that do want to advance and become more modern are either too frightened to keep fighting for themselves, or are being killed when they try.

Actually it is, if you go to the Kurdish controlled areas you should not be at risk to any kidnapping or violence. Well technically the mission was accomplished because that mission accomplished banner was only referring to the invasion of Iraq not the post invasion or occupation of Iraq. Seeing as the mission of the time was to over throw Saddam's government, which they had successfully done, then technically it was mission accomplished.

How can you presume that what you suggest is an improvement for these people or not?
What's "up" for you might be "down" for them.
Why do you judge other countries on your own standards?
It's rather like bursting into someone's sitting room and telling them to watch another channel on the TV because what they are watching is no good.
And what were the tools you tried to thrust on them?
Democracy?
That's a joke. The public vote is influenced mostly by the media, which, in the States is 80% government controlled. They vote the way they are told. And where they don't, the elections are rigged. In any case, democracy was designed for very small city states in Greece where your vote was one out of a few thousand. In that situation, one person's vote had some meaning. In huge countries like the U.S.A., one person's vote is so small as to be insignificant.
Freedom?
Another joke. The Patriot Act has curtailed freedom. The office of Homeland Security has slammed the door on that. Let's not talk about Guantanamo, which is still alive and kicking.
Honesty of government?
With so much covert action going on, the U.S.A. is hardly a role model, is it?
Give people the right to judge what is good and bad, what is right and wrong, what they need and what they don't need in their OWN culture.

bello420, nobody needs to "tangle" with Iran.
We've had quite enough of American tangling to last several lifetimes.
Enough already.
Gochisosama.
C'est assez.
Es ist genug.
Give us a break from wars - please.
