So old Foghorn Leghorn decided to bow out. I have my suspicions why.

Forget "fire in the belly." He never had a chance.

I don't know what suspicions you have Taka, but I agree with paulinusa. He never really had a chance of getting the nomination. It really is important though as the GOP candidate will be the next President of the United States.

If it's so important, why is the frontrunning GOP candidate Donald Trump spending his time on hissy fit feuds with people like Jerry Seinfeld? Now he regrets going on Seinfeld's show... Bret Michaels has the Donald covered... it's like a bunch of leftovers from TMZ.com. Important, you say?

LOL! Funniest quote of the day. :-)

You are so confident of victory that you are willing to declare it before you've even selected a candidate?
I hopt the GOP is slightly more practical in its approach to the upcoming election.

I heard he dropped out because couldn't find his birth certificate...

Wont be too long before those Repub pretenders join him.The only hope for the Repubs is for a candidate that no one knows of yet.The current usual suspects are just that.Suspect.In one way or another.

Thanks to Paul Ryan for sending the wake-up call to every swing district won by a Republican in 2010. Now those newly elected Repubs are getting an earful from angry seniors demanding why they cast a vote to kill MediCare after making campaign promises to preserve it.
The GOP has been severely tarnished in Wisconsin too. Local voters there have collected over 150% of the signatures required to hold recall elections for 5-6 Republican state senators, while the recall effort against Dems -- conducted out of spite -- is DOA.
Outside of the relatively unknown Jon Huntsman, the Republicans have come up with nobody viable to take on President Obama. Daniels is decent, but he's way to intellectual for the lunatic middle of the party -- the ones who seem drawn like moths to a flame to the insane Bachmann and the very weird Trump.

Trump hasn't declared that he actually running for U.S. President has he?
Since the GOP hasn't held their Primary election yet (it's still over a year away), it's only the news media and pollsters claiming that Trump is the "frontrunning GOP candidate". The GOP hasn't made any such claim but don't let the facts get in your way.

$5.00 per gallon gasoline and diesel fuel guarantees that the current U.S. President will NOT be the next U.S. President. The taxpaying voters won't allow it. Ideology takes a backseat to fianancial and economic stability.

Was Haley Barbour campaining in Wisconsin?
The Wisconsin taxpaying voters rejected Democrat leadership in 2008 and turned out in record numbers in 2010 to stop the unions and non-residents from dictating who sits on the Wisconsin Supreme Court in 2010. Looks like the Demcorats are on a roll - downhill.
The alledged recall signatures collected by pro government union, SEIU and the groups formerly known as ACORN haven't been verified as to actual legal residencey yet so no elections have been schedualed.

Republicans are the ones who want to give tax subsidies to oil companies making record profits. Prices per barrel were skyrocketing during Bush's last year in office -- and he and Cheney were supposed to be "oil men."
Maybe some people are stupid enough to believe that electing a Republican will automatically bring down oil prices, and we all know they'll vote. Unfortunately for Republicans, more and more Americans are wising up to their empty antics. Voting to end MediCare while giving tax breaks to oil companies and the wealthiest Americans? Keep it up, Repubs.

The major concern for the economy is the demand for and price of oil which can lead to worldwide inflation. The surge in China’s oil demand is the main reason for the increase in oil prices worldwide. If China’s economy keeps growing at its current rate, it will mean a continued increase in oil prices. U.S. and China have energy systems dependent on a resource neither nation has in abundance. China already receives two-thirds of its oil from outside its borders.

Not if the republican candidate keeps talking about cutting Social Security and Medicare. Granted, that would require some honesty from a republican (you know the party of "not intended to be taken as a factual statement") during and election so we're double-dipping on dishonesty, but you get the point.

the GOP should cut Obamacare, EPA, HUD, PBS, NEA, welfare, earmarks, congressional pay, and income taxes. That's a good start.

Oil producers are stating that the "demand" for crude oil is down. Money managers are stating that the U.S. dollar is decreasing in value because they are printing too many dollars. Dollars are the primary currency of crude oil buyers/sellers. Speculators, people who have no intention of taking delivery of a tanker load of crude, are driving the current price per barrel higher and higher. It's not supply and demand.
The Obama administration could make an effort to control inflation and hinder or slow oil speculation but Obama has said that he wants energy prices to skyrocket..... so he's assigned the Justice Department to look for illegal activity when it's known that it's NOT illegal for investors to speculate on the future price of crude (aka - A complete waste of time).
Anyone who is President at a time when gasoline prices increase 50 percent will not be re-elected.

LOL!! That will make the GOP as popular in most areas as the neighborhood liver truck.

yabits - that will 1) finally do what most americans want, and 2) help correct the fiscal corruption and irresponsibility of Obama and the Dem congress.

This is the delusion and gross conceit of the Republicans. They think that 25-35% constitutes a majority. They seem to believe that the "real America" is a nation of semi-educated, angry, white males between the ages of 30 to 60.

Obama has asked major oil producers like Saudi Arabia to increase supplies. This the first time Obama administration has done this, but it's not because they have figured out any new strategy on trying to fight high oil prices. The only feasible way to stabilize the cost of gasoline is through taxation, not subsidies. Taxation will reduce demand. If a reduced supply drives up the price then the tax may be lowered a bit and restored to a nominal value when the price goes down.

arrestpaul at 10:53 AM JST - 27th April. Oil producers are stating that the "demand" for crude oil is down.
Compare to what? 2008 peak? Here is the problem. China's oil demand has been growing at an average 7% since 1990, and while it's now the second largest oil consumer after the U.S., its consumption is increasing at a faster pace than U.S. If the current trend continues, China's consumption is expected to equal that of the U.S. in less than decade. With increase consumption of from all the countries, Earth is going to run out of oil in less time then you think.

Saudi officials recently said that production increased by 500,000 to 600,000 barrels a day at the end of February in response to the Libyan crisis. Saudia Arabia later reduced output by 500,000 barrels a day in mid-March becasue of a overall lack of demand for their crude oil.
That is the Obamination's plan. They believe that energy prices MUST skyrocket and increased taxes will increase the price of gasoline and diesel at the pumps. The byproduct of increased fuel costs is that everything that needs to be delivered will also skyrocket. Oops. Food, clothing, appliances, building supplies, etc will cost more, which means that fewer items will be purchased, which means that fewer items will be manufactured, which means fewer jobs will be needed. Unemployment will remain high, housing prices will not recover, bankruptcies will continue to rise.

The problem is that the gas tax, the primary source of revenue for federal transportation capital investment, has been shrinking every year. The gas tax isn't indexed to inflation. Since revenue generated from the gas tax stays the same while the rest of the economy grows, that means the gas tax revenue doesn't have the buying power that it used to. In fact, when you take inflation into account U.S. drivers are only paying half as much in federal gas taxes as they were in 1975.
That's a double whammy, because not only do U.S. have half the budget we used to, but instead of spending it all on new infrastructure, you have to split it on maintenance for all the new roads that were built during that time. So you have less money, and most of what we do have is already spoken for. The leftovers available for new construction are a pittance, relatively speaking.
