Forcing people to buy health insurance from private firms sounds like fascism to me.

Forcing people to buy health insurance

    Right on paolo.

Fascist and unconstitutional. What do you bet the the same politicos who slam insurance companies for sky high health insurance premiums and for denying insurance for pre-existing conditions have comfortable stock positions in said insurance companies? Forcing everyone to buy insurance serves who exactly? Bailing out the banks so they can lend our own money back to us at interest serves who exactly? Giving billions to the failed auto industry without a plan to pay back the tax payer serves who exactly? Sending our 18 year olds to die in Iraq serves who? These MFKERS just keep taking and taking... stealing our future and killing our kids in the name of saving us. This is change? Kick them all out!!!

The 10-year, $856 billion package would extend coverage to about 29 million Americans who lack it now

Huh?!?? A few weeks ago the number was 43 million, then 35 million. Now it's 29 million. Obama's F-Troop and the democrats can't keep track of their lies.

Not quite sure how you fix an insane system by making it more even more insane.

The "Cadillac" insurance plans thing is a non-starter. At $21,000 for a family it will hit a lot of union workers including police and firefighters as well as people who work for small companies by virtue of the fact that small group insurance is super expensive. Keep in mind that includes your health, dental, optical and the money you put in your health savings account and it's the total value not just what the employee pays. My wife covered us when we lived in the states and for sure we would have been hit with penalties even though our coverage was anything but "Cadillac". I hope this thing goes down in flames, it's change but not good change. Here's two plans to address the largest problems in the US health system. Make the insurance portable, and prevent insurance companies from denying pre-existing conditions. Now if you really want to reform healthcare and go further than that a public option must be included and insurance premium increases should be capped. This is a half baked compromise that no Republicans will vote for anyway.

It would make almost everyone buy insurance or pay a fee

That pretty much kills any appeal for me right there.

There are also concerns about a new tax on high-value insurance plans, which some fear would hit middle-class workers even though Baucus is directing it at so-called “Cadillac” insurance plans that he says are enjoyed by a minority of U.S. workers.

Than I guess me, all my co-workers, my parents, my brother, all my cuban relatives, and most of the irish side of my family are the minority. And I do enjoy it, it covers some of my unique medical needs, leaves me with a lot of flexibilit, and I like it that way.

I pay my taxes, I pay my premiums, I use my insurance, leave me alone. If you can't pay for you're oversized, overpriced, healthcare overhaul that I didn't even support in the first place I would ask that you don't drag me down with it.
