Waterboard the scumbags.

No, they won't be waterboarded. They're in the EU so they'll be treated in the eyes of the courts there like common criminals. In other words, they don't have to (and probably won't) say anything if they don't want to. Now they will think and talk through their lawyers, given expert legal advice and be granted the same rights and ability to make plea bargains like any ordinary Joe.

It's funny, isn't it, seeing they do not believe in 'rights', and indeed actively wish to attack with maximum brutality the fairly benign system they are now caught within.

One thing that puzzles me is why the bomb maker at the airport should blow himself up. Generally such people are more valuable alive and making more bombs, you would think. This makes absolutely no sense, unless he (was) volunteered and has trained at least one reliable replacement. Even so...

Don't be so sure. The Gendarmerie Nationale are experts in advanced interrogation techniques that leave no marks. You just won't read about it.

Normally I wouldn't condone their abuse of power, but I would certainly make an exception for this lot. They should get medieval on 'em...

@wipeout

Then the terrorists really lucked out and any terrorists they apprehend now or in the future won't have to say anything at all.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Indeed Wipeout.

What's even better is the French penal system will feed them pork normally unfit for human consumption, twice daily, for the rest of their miserable lives. And may they live long.

There are still some good things left in my adopted country...

Wipeout,

By plea bargaining I was thinking more along the lines of a life sentence over a death sentence, or maybe serving them chicken instead of pork for the rest of their lives. However, when the subject of plea bargaining comes up people do think along the lines you've mentioned. I wouldn't want to ever let these nuts run loose again, but I have nothing against serving them a diet of their choosing in exchange for highly useful information.

Just an example. I'm not as familiar with the EU as you obviously are.

Abdeslam, whose brother Brahim blew himself up in Paris, fled back to Brussels immediately afterwards and was finally captured

These people are savages.

He is now awaiting extradition to France

Justice will be served. God is great.

Perhaps. The point I was trying raise is that if the terrorists can't be forced to talk then the only option would seem to be some kind of bribe. Although it's questionable as to whether that would be effective. Coddle them or warterboard them?

Taking the moral highground is admirable on the EU's part, but at the end of the day it's doubtful whether they're going to learn anything at all from the terrorists they capture unless they're prepared to give something (a plea bargain, bribe or whatever you want to call it) back in return.

Sure, some of these terrorists were arrested (like criminals which they're not) and dealt with according to the laws of the country in which they are held, but that's about it, isn't it? They won't talk and any secrets they're keeping will remain hidden. Yes, a few of them have been taken off the streets and society is a little bit safer than before as a result, but what about their brothers-in-arms and the other terrorist cells planning their next attack?

Does not matter, there are plenty more jihadis in the wings, and more enter Europe daily by the tens of thousands.

And yet 3 former CIA directors claim that the intelligence gathered through the use of enhanced interrogation techniques on detained terrorists was important for locating and killing Usama bin Laden.

In a sense, I would like to agree with your wishful thinking about all terrorists being ignorant about not knowing what the other one is doing, but that's all it (wishful thinking) is. If chinks in the armor can be found and useful information gleaned from religious fanatics who have no qualms about killing as many innocent people as they can, then, why not?

Madverts:

" What's even better is the French penal system will feed them pork normally unfit for human consumption, twice daily, for the rest of their miserable lives. And may they live long. "

That would be great, alas it sounds like an urban myth.

To the contrary, French prisons are now being ordered to provide Halal meals at taxpayers expense, see here:

@wipeout

Still, it's retribution. Better late than never.
