Yup, global warming wreaking havoc. I never cared to listen to Al Gore's documentaries.

    Global warming = Global cooling

Now I know what Orwell meant about doublespeak

It's relatively warm right now where we are. So guess we should thank global warming, hahaha.

They call it 'climate change' now. I think Al Gore thinks it sounds more scary than global warming. At least leftist scientists can prove that climate change happens - you don't have to have an advanced degree in meteorology to realize that the climate has and always will change - no big scientific breakthrough there. The simplistic computer models that have focused primarily on carbon to predict global warming have been proven to be dreadful at predicting future global temperatures. Climate changes. Temperatures warm and cool. Mankind adapts. There is no reason to freak out about it. If you are living in Europe now buy a warm coat and stay indoors.

Denying mans contribution to destroying the planet is up there with holocaust denial IMO.

It isn't cold in Europe. These temperatures are normal in wintertime. We're just not used to the cold, becuase most of this winter has been like spring. In early January I had my lunch outside in a T shirt at a cafe. Totay I have three jumpers and thermal undies. Freaky weather, aptly named climate change.

Why am I not surprised to find those leading the denial are the usual rabble from the far right?

Maybe tell that to the hundreds of the dead that survived decades of european winters and died this year. Also maybe you are not aware that less gas for heating is coming in from russia this year.

Upset as I speak to my european family daily and hear their worries, etc because it is unusually cold and areas are cut off from the outside.

People are dying because they weren't prepared for the cold snap. Snow ice and sub zero temperatures are normal for early Feb, unless you have some stats that show otherwise...?

I grew up there and know the stats(freely available online going back over 1 century). And I seen cold-snaps where the temp dropped from -10 to -30 and over 4 feet of snow over-night.

So bite me, or even better proof me wrong.

Temp is in celsius not fahrenheit.

I'm not sure why you want biting you seem to be agreeing with me? Or am I being that dumb this cold morning?

I would go with the latter. Europeans are not new to cold-snaps, etc and survived them before.

This year is extra-extremely cold/harsh, while you say it is a mild/standard winter and ignore that hundreds died due to the extreme weather conditions(beyond the norm).

    Read the european newspapers, etc?

Then you haven't read my posts.

My initial message was to the same rightwingnuts that miss no opperunity to deny man's chronic negative effect to the planet. We're a bloody cancer.

Freak weather is not the norm, I disagree with you entirely. I repeat what I wrote earlier, we've had a winter here where I live more comparable with spring, until 10 days ago. By the 3rd of January it had frozen only twice on a morning. And then suddenly this.

I've noted people around me complaining about the cold this week as if its some sort of new phenomena, when in reality it is the weather before the cold snap that is abnormal.

I'm still not sure what point I've made that you take issue with?

Care to elaborate "where I live" is? It is for sure a different place where my family lives.

Hey, I wore a T today in Tokyo = means zilch.

Unless you call -16C/-9C todays forecast comparable with spring.

    South of France :)

20 degrees C three weeks ago sipping a Stella on an outside terrace. Baracaded inside today -10 C, I'm talking myself into getting the snow off the truck and going to get some bread. Hardly normal to me.

Even spring and summer weather has been strange, like have one long season as opposed to four.

Lucky you, my folks are freezing as per above post.

Well I would understand a discussion about the rising cost of heating in regards to people dying. That, like everything else in Europe has sky-rocketed with the damned Euro.

I presume your folks are in Eastern Europe?

Summer is hot and humid, we are only 146 metres above sea-level.

Have electricity and fuel prices exploded in Austria too?

  • -2

    It"S ME

Yes, they did according to my folks. Still comfy here in Tokyo at at a max of a -2 at night.

I didn't mean insensitivity towards your folks, it's funny how things can be mis-construed when they're written as opposed to spoken. Thanks for your comments

No problems, online is a poor communication method at best.
