Pilots with mental health problems are the last thing we need. Must have been terrifying for those minutes before crashing and it's little comfort that they wouldn't have felt anything hitting solid rock at 700 or more km/h. But what a way to go. Sounds like many warning signs were there with this guy too.

This was far more than a simple suicide, and in my honest opinion he acted like he wanted the passengers to suffer as much as he could make them on the way to their tragic deaths. So this was more like terrorism rather than suicide, but no one wants to say that of course.

Yep, he is no different than those who hijack airplanes or suicide bombers in my opinion. If there is an afterlife, I hope Hades has vacancy for him.

I don´t know. The way we use the term terrorism, it is always related to an ideology and the concept of terrorizing a population... neither is the case here. That the victims were terrified is a given. But if you stretch the definition that far, then every crime and every accident is "terrorism", because the victim is/ar of course terrified. And that would make the term meaningless. So lets do without the T word.

I agree with WilliB on the terror point. IMO this was simply murder and he is a criminal.

If he had somehow survived to stand trial, his depression wouldn't offer him any defence such as insanity. The fact that he locked the cockpit door proves that he knew full well that what he was doing was wrong. He had the soundness of mind to realise that others would attempt to stop him.

Well, it's a pretty solid indicator, though not absolute. Nothing I've seen so far however seems to point to him being unable to tell right from wrong.

I read a great article on this subject the other day, about how governments and media use the term to keep populations in line: http://www.straight.com/news/420321/gwynne-dyer-explains-why-terrorism-overblown-and-why-islamists-want-western-countries

Pilots like this should enlist in the military and fly fighter jets --> the faster the better it seems for them.
