No. This is not the implosion of China, this is simply islamic terrorism; not different from what is happening in the Philippines, in Thailand, in Chechnia, or in Nigeria.

China often has riots and unrest in local areas. They have never spread so far. And this, as WilliB said, is another thing entirely.

I'm not a fan of China, and they will have many problems in the future. But people waiting for a mass implosion are going to be waiting a long time.

When the Chinese get out of East Turkestan, the attacks will stop. The same thing happened in Algeria with the French. What is happening now is right out of Mao's playbook. "A guerrilla", according to Mao Zedong, "can always sink back into the peaceful population which is the sea in which the guerrilla swims like a fish." The Chinese response will be to crack down harder on the Uighurs which will simply create more people willing to carry out attacks like the one today. The only way to end the cycle is for the Chinese to return East Turkestan to the Uighur people.

Some of the anti-China rants I read on this forum are from people who've clearly never spent any time in China nor know anything about its culture and the fact that they never mention its appalling racism is a clear sign of that. The myth of a pure Han race is widely accepted and the tactic of moving 'Han' Chinese into areas with large ethnic minorities such as Xinjiang and Tibet to overwhelm and marginalize the people there is indefensible. The stereotyping of Chinese as mindless Commie automatons is well off the mark but if someone stereotyped China as a racist culture, I'd be very interested to hear anyone refute this. The appalling treatment of the few African workers allowed to work in China was a disgrace along with widely disseminated pseudo-scientific rubbish about digging up the ancestors of the Han race ( not migrated from Africa, of course ) in China is sinister. Many countries have issues with murderous religious nutcases and these foul specimens are never justified in killing innocents but China's treatment of those deemed different is an utter disgrace.

In Taiwan someone also raged out, so sad... :(

Get real. We live in a fluid, interconnected world, where migration is at an all time high. In my home country in the West, the gov't also has a "tactic" of moving in large numbers of newcomers of certain ethnicity, who now dominate neighborhoods previously occupied by people of a different ethnicity. I believe the phenomenon is called "immigration."

There's plenty of space in Western China to accommodate everyone.

I'm being very real. To take the example of Tibet, I don't think your government forcibly annexes a country and then sponsors immigration of its people into that country ( migration within China was heavily restricted under Mao ). China was hardly part of a 'fluid, interconnected world' and still isn't. I assume your government doesn't pass laws to attempt to restrict the rights of the people whose neighborhoods have seen mass immigration either. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not a hateful China-basher like some of the posters here who have crazed visions of people walking around in Mao suits carrying little red books ( I've actually spent quite some time there, speak a little of the language and have many good friends there ), but China's racism and treatment of ethnic minorities is pretty ugly.

If you by "East Turkestan" you mean the XinYiang province, then yes. But of of course muslims will immigrate to other parts of china and repeat the cycle.

The muslim Arabs drove the French out of Algeria, correct. But subsequently, they started immigrate to France, and now they are driving the French out of France. How long do you think this one-way cycle can go on?

There's no excuse for terrorism. Would bin Laden have not attack the WTC if the US troops weren't in Saudi Arabia? Maybe Boko Haram would play nice if the country were divided in two? Any nut job can come up with a lame excuse for atrocity. I hope the Chinese government crushes them.

The Uighurs have benefited from many years of affirmative action, from exemption to the one-child policy to eased university entrance requirements. The problem is that the Uighur nationalists are aiming to ethnically and religiously cleanse their area. That's what Beijing is pushing back against.

SE China is overcrowded and polluted. Promoting migration to less developed regions is a sensible policy. Look at Japan and Hokkaido.

I'd have to disagree with Willib on this particular situation. The Uighurs had that land for quite a long time didn't care about expanding or enforcing strict sharia law as the Islamists do. But China opened the door on this one when they invaded their territory. Now the Islamists around the world were just given the first valid excuse for them to begin terrorist acts in China and you'd better believe its going to get worse for China on that front as Islamic extremists from beyond those borders start marching their organizations around China as China has "declared war on muslims" and even worse, "Taken land from muslims brothers".

a look in the dictionary shows that China annexed the Xinyiang region already in 1759. And the Uigurs never had their own state. So that is a very different story from Tibet.

Maybe the Uiguirs should get their own state. But do you really want to create yet another jihad exporting Shariah hellhole in the world?
