Pity for the civilians who died and those who may yet die. Pity for the Afghans who were wounded. For American soldiers who got wounded, much more dubious feelings. All I can say is that I hope they heal up all right, and their wounds convince them to curse the misguided war and occupation they never should have supported with their own life and limb.

How can you have dubious feelings for the soldiers attacked by cowards? There isn't any oil to steal so for what reason are they there other than to nuture Afghanistan back from the stoneage?

The timing must be a coincidence, the Taliban surely don't have a calender yet, that would smack of evolution in the primates...

Coward is an interesting word. Could you explain it me?
Maybe you could define it in terms of me shooting at you from inside an M1 Abrams tank while you shoot at me with an AK-47 from behind a boulder? Who is the coward?
Then perhaps you could contrast with a bunch of soldiers sitting around laughing about the above scenario while enjoying steak in a defended and comfy base with shops, guns armor, and attack helicopters all around while a guy blows himself to bits in a truck to try and hurt them? Who is the coward in this case?

Aren't these the wackos who forbid music, kite flying and girls going to school?

Goto love the blinkered look at the world. One could also say; Americans, arnt they the wacko's that forbid blacks and white riding together on public transport, attending the same schools, and going to the same entertainment venues. And that was less than 50 years ago that it officially ended.
See the point is even a great country like the US took time to develop. Yet you belittle a 3rd world country for being backward yet, a world leader like the US only really shook off some downright nasty traditions not so long ago. So before you stand back and throw insults one should look at their own not so distant past. No-one is perfect, and no im not defending the Taliban just your projecting of right and wrong

Spida - Yeah, well, at least we never forbid music, kite flying or girls going to school, lol.

Is NATO fighting a war for revenge of 9/11, to bring western stye democracy to a tribal country, or for the vast mineral wealth, so far untapped. Difficult question to answer. Judging from history, no foreign power has ever won a war there, including the Brits and the Russians. Was it the Brits who introduced opium just like they did with China?

I think the guy who blows himself up is the coward. Instead of fighting against overwhelming odds for a belief he is willing to die for, he kills himself and innocent civilians. That is a coward. If this guy is so noble, man up and face those weapons along, and let the civilians go about their lives.

What's the difference between the Taliban and what happens in Saudi Arabia? One we consider a friend, the other an enemy.

Alphaape, civilians belong in houses where the U.S. military blows them up. They don't belong on a U.S. military base, where this guy blew up a handful of civilians he probably had no idea were there. That is one of the very few instances of acceptable collateral damage.
The U.S. has no qualms about blowing up Taliban leaders while they sleep in their own houses, killing their whole family, kids and all, and they do it with airplanes at 11,000 feet, or predator drones from 11,000 kilometers, and it is not acceptable collateral damage. Is that bravery?
You suggest someone "man up" when it comes to foreign invaders and their base in his country and he dies just to smack them, while those foreign invaders enjoy the safety of distance and go for houses? I think you might have more than just two faces. You seem to actually have several.
This guy scored big for the Taliban. If they keep doing this and stop killing civilians, it will be Vietnam all over again. And people like you will talk about how we could have won if only....but never actually understand why you lost...in the same way...for the same reasons...again.

Wow, someone is living in fantasy land where every mission goes without a hitch, and every bullet hits the right target, every spy gets the information correct on the first try. If the world was that perfect there would be no wars in the first place.
love you pretty much just contradicted yourself, they will not stop killing civilians because they don't have any laws or rules they choose to follow to avoid such casualties that you wrongly attribute all to the US killing civilians. I'm sure you'd be a great general to get all you men K.I.A with armchair stratagies. These people don't WANT to get civilians killed, but are still expected to take out hostiles... so until the magic bullet and psychic smart bombs that will only hit viable targets are made reality is going to march on.

@lovehandles: So you are saying, when we bomb we try to minimize collateral damage and that is a bad thing, but guy who knowing and willing kills civilians is a good guy. If you think this guy scored well, and the US and NATO is just a bunch of cowards, why don't you go join and fight for them. I have served in the US military (for 20 years) and I chose to put my money where my mouth is and man up, but I guess you like to sit back and just talk bad, but when it comes time to actually do something, I am sure that you will find an excuse not to do so.

The answer is no one. Both chose a form of cover, one behind a rock and one inside a tank but then again there is less than 14 M1 Abrams tank in Afghanistan and there are millions of boulders in Afghanistan. This is like the equivalent of arguing which is more cowardly, air strikes or IED's that are remote detonated or pressure plated(Meaning the attacker is never discovered and thus never put in danger). Tanks are rarely if ever used in Afghanistan due to the mountainous terrain basically making tanks worthless. I have yet to see a video of an insurgent taking on an M1 Abrams tank all by themselves with an Ak-47.
Whether you like it or not the Afghan war is a justified and legal war for the US to fight.

I just worked with a beautiful young lady born in Iran, but raised here in Japan, and she told me that in her country MUSIC, singing and dancing etc..is PROHIBITED for both men and women in Iran, so maybe the nutcases in Teheran want to support these idiot Talibanis too?? I agree with Serrano, my gaijin hermano, not too sure what he said but I agree 100% with Serrano and also with Madverts and all.

Bury an IED and wait for the tank to roll up. Detonate IED with a cell phone. Your culture, any culture where your religion reigns supreme is incapable of producing any of these weapons you use. Who is the coward?Who is the plundering, parasitic enemy of civilization??

Obviously, the civilians were collateral damage. He attacked the army, and most of those 77 will be leaving Afghanistan. This is what you are supposed to do in war isn't it? I don't support the Taliban, but combatants attacking eachother is the point. You can't obfuscate that.
