Jambon: Come again? Casualties don`t matter to jihadists, seeing that they go straight to paradise. And more are recruited every day, in mosques all over the country.

  • Foddy at 03:13 PM JST - 16th April

    Jambon

I wonder why people like you pretend that the US military is in any way in control of what happens in Iraq? It's 5 years since the invasion (supposed to be a walk in the park, with the invaders greeted with open arms, but in reality one of the most disastrous exercises in military history) and people in the Green Zone - supposedly the safest area of the country! - are being regularly bombed, injured and killed. And Muqtada al-Sadr just has to twitch his little finger and Baghdad is under curfew; drop it and the curfew is lifted.

I guess that at least Petraeus realises that he is stuck in a lose-lose situation by advocating that there are no more troop withdrawals.

  • Zaphod at 05:15 PM JST - 16th April

    Foddy,

they are only "stuck" as long as the wish success for a democratic Iraq. They could withdraw any time, but the people who advocate withdrawal should be realistic about what happens then... and it won`t luck pretty.

The dishonesty about the situation is shared by all political camps.

Heh, go jambon. Another 70 dead but the writer was "hoping for more" and the surge is surely working.

This has gone past simple Denial. This needs a medical term.

"one of the most disastrous exercises in military history"

No one else even tried. And I beg to differ - in less than a month, Saddam Hussein's regime toppled with minimum civilian casualties.

Mad averts - "another 70 dead" Any criticism of the perpetrators of the carnage, al-Qaida? Nah...

  • Madverts at 06:48 PM JST - 16th April

Uh, sarge - my critisism remains firmly on the people who allowed the terrorists to take over Iraq whent they botched the invasion.....the US government and war supporters like you.

"A series of bombings blamed on al-Qaida in Iraq tore through market areas in Baghdad and outside the capital on Tuesday, killing nearly 60 people and shattering weeks of relative calm in Sunni-dominated areas."

Interesting. Unlike madverts I'd have to say my criticism is reserved for Al Qaeda, its financial backers beyond Iraq's borders, Sunni deadbeats, and the clerics who brainwash young, confused, or disaffected Iraqis into believing that killing your fellow Iraqis is a religious duty.

  • Madverts at 07:24 PM JST - 16th April

but you would pasqui - you supported the invasion which allowed Al Qaeda, its financial backers beyond Iraq's borders, Sunni deadbeats, and the clerics who brainwash young, confused, or disaffected Iraqis into believing that killing your fellow Iraqis is a religious duty.

No wonder you don't want to admit the hated Reality.

But Reality it is. Saddam Hussein was a ruthless dictator, but he was still largely better than America's poisened "gift".

Madverts has at last admitted Al Qaeda was in Iraq...

  • redacted at 08:45 PM JST - 16th April

Al Qaeda number 2 Ayman Zawahiri, quoted in a recent communique:

As-Sahab: And what is the most important field in which this Mujahid vanguard is wrestling with the enemies of Islam? Zawahiri: Iraq is the most important of these fields.

"As-Sahab: To begin, what is your opinion about the condition of the Jihad in Iraq today?

"Zawahiri: The condition of the Iraqi Jihad, is - overall - excellent by the grace of Allah, and whatever pains are suffered are a must on the march of Jihad and the most recent reports which have come in from Iraq tell of an increase in the strength of the mujahideen and a deterioration in the Americans' conditions, despite their desperate attempts to deceive and mislead. And the decision of the British to flee is sufficient."

"Madverts has at last admitted Al Qaeda was in Iraq..."

Yes. Since the US led invasion allowed them to be there and wreak havoc.

So much for the so-called "war on terror", neh?

  • redacted at 11:04 PM JST - 16th April

"the US led invasion allowed them to be there and wreak havoc."

Because the "insurgents," while human enough (in an abstract way) to be pitied for being between the US and its interests in the ME, are not truly human to the anti-liberation crowd - that would mean admitting they posess the same free will the rest of us have. And though they might come from Syria or Saudi Arabia it is only the Yanks who you can call "imperialists" and occupiers.

Honestly, how else to explain (one example) complete disregard for Iraqi points of view? Iraqbodycount.org's completely thorough on-the-ground mortality indices are cynically tossed aside for Lancet figguhs (figures) pulled out of some Lefty "bioethicist's" arse a week before the federal election in the US three years ago, and though repeatedly debunked, are still bandied about by the Left and by "pacifists" here.

No, the "insurgents" (and ordinary Iraqis, of course) just sorta get "allowed into" things, as you so very well put it, madverts.

    Things happen.

    People get killed.

Can't look for a motive, homicidal or ideological, that drives "insurgent" behavior.

Can't quite bring ourselves to fault AlQaeda's enablers and financiers, who vote in their own way but with cash donations from Damascus and AK-47s via Afghanistan, can we?

    Nope.

    It's all America's fault.

Iraq, though 5, 000 years older than the US of A is powerless before Dumbya...

  • Madverts at 11:42 PM JST - 16th April

    "It's all America's fault"

Yup, indeedy. Unless you can show the total instability with daily suicide bombings, people displaced by the millions and the ever possible threat of fundie control....

Like I said - this is no longer a state of Denial - it needs a medical term. Heh, and serious treatment.

  • Madverts at 11:43 PM JST - 16th April

Sorry "Unless you can show the total instability with daily suicide bombings, people displaced by the millions and the ever possible threat of fundie control...."under Hussein.

  • Madverts at 11:45 PM JST - 16th April

This woul be hilarious if there were no human suffering. jambon, uh sarge and the others think the surge is working, and attack anyone pointing out the truth by saying they are "salivating" for dead bodies...

When the Iranians negotiate a peace deal for Basara because the Iraqi "government" has failed to root out the militia's, well, you know you're in deep shinola.
