The copilot landed the plane? I think its more accurate to say the automated flight system landed the plane! These days the pilot is the copilot and the copilot is the co-copilot. And the navigator is on luggage detail on the ground!

Even though this is exactly one of the reasons there are at least two capable pilots on every commercial flight it still must be incredibly difficult to land a plane (or complete any number of other tasks) with a colleague--not to mention probably a friend--dead or dying in the seat next to you. Applause to the co-pilot.

" Incidents like Monday’s help ensure regulators won’t allow unmanned cockpits or unaccompanied pilots anytime soon. "

Waitasec.... I get the "unaccompanied pilots", but why "unmanned cockpits"? It seems to be this would be precisely an argument FOR unmanned cockpits, as robots don´t have heart attacks.

Wow! Rest in Peace Mr. Pilot! Great job on the co-pilot.

If, by some unbelievable stroke of bad luck, the co-pilot also died, the auto-pilot system could land the plane, right?

It's not as though the pilots climb into their seats, dial in a destination on Google Maps, and hit the "Go" button. It's true that there's a lot of automation in place, but the plane doesn't fly itself from runway to runway.

My deepest Condolences

Could've been worse, becoming incapacitated while approaching runway. Or becoming stuck to the yolk. Pick your poison. . . speaking of which- aww some of that airline food is awful.
