These stage pyrotechnics have gone badly wrong several times, and combine that with an overcrowded venue and restricted exits... so many young and innocent people, so, so sad.

I remember when something like this happened in MA. Pyrotechnics + Small, enclosed venue + overcrowding = deathtrap.

Brazil is in shock, not only because of the huge number of fatalities, but also because of the horror inside. Many survivors said the victims died trampled to death, and the most were found inside both bathrooms - which in the total dark were the only places that resembled an exit door. Otherwise, there was no exit sign directing people to the street, and one of the security member locked the door when the crowd tried to escape - many witnesses say security personnel wanted to avoid that people leave without paying. Brazil has strict laws on fire prevention, but most are not implemented or obeyed. In this case, there was no trainned personnel, or a fire brigade marshall, exit doors lights. A tragedy that could be avoided, like in most fires. Now I think that the boring fire drills our school had to do every year was indeed important. Another sad aspect of this tragedy is that the leftist gov't (Lula and Dilma) are making personal propaganda of themselves, shamelessly associating their presence in the city with the 2014 campaign. Sad. RIP everybody, may God bless you and your families and frinds.
