Just because it's McDonald's everybody and their dog thinks they can blame them for their own choices. This is so wrong. Like the hot coffee burning the idiot woman.

This is stupid. A person should be held accountable for their own choices. McDonald's tray mats have a complete breakdown of how horrible the food is for you and they print it on their boxes so if you eat it it's your own fault. I get fast food 2 or 3 times a week but I have no illusions about its lack of nutrition.

A Brazilian court ruled this week that McDonald’s must pay a former franchise manager $17,500 because he gained 65 pounds (30 kilograms) while working there for a dozen years.

So? My grandfather gained over 100lbs from the time I was a child to the time I graduated high school. But that was because he rarely if ever moved away from the television. I don't have a problem with fat people; I have a problem with parasites that won't take responsibility for themselves.

oooh dear,,,,,,yes, they chained your hand to the burger machine and made you eat it! you would think the opposite was true, that after working at MC you would be put off from eating it for the rest of your life, one of my friends turned vegetarian after 1 year of working there, the smell she said is disgusting of all the oil and meat etc

I think it is hillarious how people wake up one day and decide they will blame someone for how they ended up,,,,i think people need bigger mirrors , hanging by their doors,,, so they can see how they look before entering the world outside ,,,

In the old days McDonald's managers used to do MVRs, "Manager Visitation Reports". I was devastated once, as a callow 17 year old "swing manager", when we had a tough visit. The MVRer, who was the store manager's boss, made the comment that "the drink had good ice bricks", apparently because there was nothing else worthy of praise.

The 32-year-old man said he felt forced to sample the food each day to ensure quality standards remained high, because McDonald’s hired “mystery clients” to randomly visit restaurants and report on the food, service and cleanliness.

Sample is not the same as munch... get real!

Yeah McDonald's, take responsibility, how about the SHAKES? Do you all know why McDonald's can not legally call them milk shakes anymore? Because they are mostly whipped up lard! So, it is more like McDonald's selling yummy lard shakes but I guess you all would not be so excited about downing a yummy lard shake from McDonald's?

This guy worked for the company. He knew what he was getting into. He just took the cue from the hot coffee story and thought it would work. And it seems it did. The judge is just as stupid as the one for the hot coffee incident.

I bet if he'd been working in a gym he wouldn't have been so eager to check on the quality of he equipment.

Well while reading this, I am eating an Aussie steak and although Assie meat is no good, I am eating the fat too. That way I can clean out my system. This dude needs to get his act together. He could have sampled, but not mass consumed.

Did they have data pointing to similar weight gains for other employees or was this just something for this one guy?

I am rather surprized that the court order didn't make McDonalds pay all their "customers" to eat their "foods"

    TheQuestion

Do you all know why McDonald's can not legally call them milk shakes anymore? Because they are mostly whipped up lard!

That is a verifiable falsity. They use a dry shake mix, syrup, and milk. Most franchises have it right in front of the counter, I've seen them dump in the milk myself. Their reason for referring to the product as a shake, rather than a milkshake, was to prevent people from thinking it was made with ice-cream.

Information regarding shake contents and the myth can be found in the latimes article "Scrumptious, I'm Afraid" by Max Jacobson.

So, it is more like McDonald's selling yummy lard shakes but I guess you all would not be so excited about downing a yummy lard shake from McDonald's?

I ate a lot of horrible canned food while I was growing up and after consuming the nightmare that is potted meat forgive me if the, even false, idea of a lard shake doesn't sound so awful. Just as long as it isn't lard flavored.

My cousin was Asst. Manager at a MacDonald's once and one day when she spied a stray fry on the counter she picked it up and ate it. Another employee who witnessed the event phoned the boss and within an hour she was canned for "pilferage". Yep, Mac takes care of its own all right.

The coffee woman had a right to sue--no one expects their coffee to give them 2nd and 3rd degree burns, and certainly getting those on your genitals (as she did) is pretty unpleasant. When I get a hot drink I expect it to be kind of hot, but the kind of hot that turns your skin red and is safe to drink after a few minutes. Not blistering hot. I know everyone likes to cite this case and say, "Hur hur, hot coffee is hot!" but they fail to actually read the details and find out what really happened.

As for the obesity lawsuits, you can't choose how hot the coffee is, but you can choose what you put in your mouth. If you're sampling during the day, I don't see how a fry here or a nugget there is going to add up to 65 pounds. And free lunches? Are you kidding me? No one forced you to eat your lunch there, and if they did ... well, there are plenty of salads. Even an egg mcmuffin is pretty healthy.

I would, it still tastes good. Get off your high horse. People make choices and I LOVE THEIR LARD SHAKE!

There is some McD's food I like but I choose what I eat and when I eat it. Blaming somebody eise is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It's not like he was a goose being fattened for pate, after all. Sheesh!
