I'm enjoying the irony of a Liberal-Conservative coalition when in my own Canada such an idea is impossible. This does help (I can only hope) change the mentality of cooperation and practical action in a positive manner throughout Westminster based Parliaments.

No fears anymore in commonwealth of hung parliaments in westminster systems via 2nd UK's coalition govt. This will reduce fear of hung parliaments through out the commonwealth.

Britain welcomes 1st coalition government since World War II

I don't think anyone has 'welcomed' it. We didn't have any say in the matter.

“Until today, we have been rivals. Now we are colleagues,” said Clegg

    Comical.

Cameron acknowledged he had once told an interviewer the best joke he had ever heard was “Nick Clegg.”

And now they want to form a coalition government !

They made up. Cameron addressed the joke with Clegg next to him and was able to laugh at himself when Clegg walked away, then came back to the podium. They appear to be pragmatists inside fixated parties. It will be interesting how they figure it out.

This new coalition is strangely mute in Canadian press, long taking the songsheet from the ruling Conservative minority who actually insist that coalitions are illegal. (they don't like the Bloc, a sovereignist party). In any respect this isn't the case and a lie in any Parliament system. The Liberals and NDP here aren't even merged like Clegg's Lib-Dem's.

Thankfully with UK in a coalition this makes for compromise and a stronger sense of accountability. It's not a bad way to go. Really, I think you'll do so much better.
