The European voters have apparently figured it out. Obama take note.

Nation of chavs it's becoming, wot.

So Helter's on here saying that the 'Socialists' were slamming the people who won, while teleprompter says that their winning has made Britain into a more Socialist place.
Hmmm....
Just more proof that neither of them really know what they're talking about when they purport to fight 'Socialism' (ie. Obama) but are actually embracing Socialism (ex. giving up control of their freedom and certain civil liberties under the former president among some more particular examples).

I saw Mr Griffin interviewed, he seemed a pretty solid dependable guy. This is teh type of leader that would lead the US out of Obama's depression and also wipe out all our enemies.
Well done UK voters, you're still one of the good guys.

Does this mean I won't be welcomed in the UK any longer?

These guys seem a little extreme but what can you expect from a country that has let itself destroy itself with its own political correctness. Poor Britain suffers from those immigrants that hate the native white population. No wonder these groups are making gains. It's called backlash. Society must also work in cycles like global heating and cooling.

bushlover: "No wonder these groups are making gains. It's called backlash. Society must also work in cycles like global heating and cooling."
Well, let's hope the 'backlash' that will form next week against these guys will be pressured to get lost. No one in their right minds will tolerate much of what they stand for for very long. It's not 'political correctness' to fight things like, "The Greater Romania Party—which is pro-religion, anti-gay and anti-Hungarian...", or people who base their entire platform on being anti-Islam; it's simply 'correct'.

It's the opposite of political correctness that has taken support away from the main parties; they've all been caught with their fists in the cookie jar. The low turnout caused by ordinary voters not being able to find anyone they'd want to vote for has magnified the influence of the extremist parties, whose supporters are more motivated to vote.

Haha, very snidely done. Is there any evidence that could possibly convince you that global warming may actually not be a 'liberal conspiracy'? If not, your views can be discounted as irrational.

Perhaps it is more accurate to say Britain is imposing its far right ideology on the innocent little member nations of the EU.

"The party, which does not accept nonwhite members and calls for the “voluntary repatriation” of immigrants, won two of Britain’s 72 seats in the European Parliament"
The Brits must be proud. Any more fuel to the fire of Englands social decline and we'll have a raging inferno !

The large majority of people in Britain reject the views of the BNP entirely.
This, sadly, is a victory for voter apathy - the BNP's total number of votes actually fell, it's just that their share of the vote increased because disillusioned voters who would normally vote for mainstream parties stayed at home.
I take some heart from that fact.
The BNP are a bunch of bigots trying to put a respectable face on a nasty, racist agenda. Shame on anyone applauding them here - the usual inferiority-complex anti-British U.S. conservatives by the look of it. No surprise there

For those of us in Japan, the irony is that many of theBNP's policies are what pass for mainstream in Japan (both LDP and DPJ). Anti- immigrant, racist, no or low welfare, strongly nationalist. also, it is ridiculous to say that any other party is "basically the Nazi Party". The Nazis were a party rooted in German history and culture at a specific time with policies designed to address the particular concerns and aspirations of post WW1 Germany. These fringe parties are not totally crazy and clearly do reflect the concerns of some of the voters - that's why they got seats and that is what a democracy is all about. It is not only "working" when parties that the mainstream approve of win everything.

Their economic policies would possibly do even more damage than those of Mr Brown.

Heh, so if I've grasped this, the American extreme right continue to errounously believe Obama is a socialist, and that extemist brothers in Europe making political advances is to be seen as a positive....

I agree with frontandcentre. I take some comfort in the fact that the BNP's share of the vote was less than it was in 2004. Voters for other parties, especially Labour, just stayed at home, only the right wing nutters came out last Thursday. I'm ashamed to be British.

smith:
No, it is not "correct", as in politically correct. Expect any anti-islamization party to get smeared like there is no tomorrow.
It is high time, though. But probably too late already; islamist leaders already crowing about Europe being Dar-al-Dahwa, and soon getting ready to be delivered to islam.
To see what that is coming, visit Trappes, Luton, or Dearborne, Michigan for that matter.

Brown and the idiots on the other side should be be held personally responsible for this outrage.

I've lived in Trappes. You're talking rubbish.

WilliB = Daily Mail reader?
meanwhile, back in the real world...support for the BNP is decreasing. Half of their supporters are more recent arrivals to Britain than the "immigrants" (3rd, 4th generation?) that they are campaigning to remove. It is simply a party of working class hatred against people who have made a successful move to Britain.
Labour's abject failure results in embarassing episodes such as this. Voters will come back and put Griffin and his ilk back on the extreme fringes where their disgusting world view belongs

"I reckon Britain needs a long look in the mirror."
Really?
You were "luvin' it" earlier. Must you flip-flop on every issue?

Melanie Phillips, almost 4 months ago:
Last month:
I had heard British people talk about BNP before but I assumed they were like young skinheads playing at being adult politicians and that their chances of ever winning office were almost non-existent.
I was shocked to find this in The Spectator:
"Not for nothing were the Nazis called ’national socialists’. In similar fashion, the BNP fuse ultra-nationalism and racism with economic ideas which would sit well on the left of the Labour party. It is more helpful, and more accurate, to regard the BNP as opportunists. In the tradition of all fascist and neo-fascist parties, they prey upon a decaying body politic by taking up genuine grievances which are of overwhelming concern to the public but which, for one reason or another, mainstream politics is ignoring. By doing so, they serve to camouflage their own anti-democratic and noxious ideology.
The BNP under Nick Griffin have been particularly skilled at this, getting their people to grow out their shaven heads and get into suits, and sanitising their literature of anything that might frighten the voters off. They remain, however, a deeply and truly racist and antisemitic party, as is demonstrated by the fact that they will not allow black people or Jews to be members because they don’t regard black people or Jews as properly British.

Please answer the question, old friend.
How can your position be "I'm luvin' it" in regards to the BNP and other associated fringe right parties win seats in Europe, and then later "I reckon Britain needs a long look in the mirror".
It seems very much akin to your position(s) on poll figures.

madverts:
Quite simple. BNP are not conservative. They are opportunists. In fact, they are closer to "NuLabor" than folks like you (and fontandcentre, etc) care to acknowledge. I'll let your compatriot Mel Phillips again explain:

Thanks for the quote's, but I'm interested in how earlier your "luvin' it" changed to "I reckon Britain needs a long look in the mirror."
You can simply be honest and admit to flip-flopping like on the issue of poll figures, and I'll understand, old friend...

Europe voting in conservatives - I'm lovin it, especially in the Age of Obama.
BNP is not conservative, they are opportunistic out and out racists - Britain needs a long look in the mirror.
Simple enough?
