Good for the law. This has nothing to do with "Islamic extremism" or "ignorance." It's good that public displays of affection are illegal there, if people don't like it then they don't have to visit Dubai. After all the same people screaming about "Islamic crazies" are the same ones that probably whine about Middle Eastern/Islamic immigrants not "conforming" to the laws and culture of their adopted country.

I highly doubt the law enforcement in Dubai are going around jailing every foreigner that holds hands or gives a little peck on the cheek. But all it takes is a few bad apples to go around getting drunk and shagging on the beach in public. How disgusting and crass is that, even if it wasn't intercourse I don't want to see people making out in bloody public.

Good for the justice system in Dubai this time.

I guess those UAE judges just aren't culturally sensitive enough to British lifestyle and culture. Shame on them.

While they seem pretty quick to dole out punishment, I have to say that I wish sometimes a system like this were in play in Japan. I don't mean jail time for public displays of affection or drunkeness (god, everyone and their monkey would be in the klink!), but simply getting charged for breaking the law. Here's it's nothing but pussy-footing around the laws and 'suspended sentences'.

Helter Skelter - nothing like a bit of scaremongering there! Islamic countries are evil... flee!!! Probably shouldn't be limited to Islamic countries. Surely you visit everywhere at your own risk?

She admitted as such that she was on top of him, yet denies having sexual intercourse. Eyewitnesses say to the contrary, and a police actually warned the two prior to knock out the PDA. As I suspected the article hints that for the most part authorities tend to look away from most "offenses." I would think that with all those tourists, it's not like the gestapo people make it out to be, they're not persecuting holding of hands or little pecks on the cheek. That is why this case is so sensational, because their behavior was so crass and egregious to offend an officer who warned them beforehand, yet they refused to obey and now blaming alcohol for it.

I have no sympathy for them at all, having sex on the beach in public will get anyone arrested in many, many places of the world. Good for Dubai officials.

The hell with crappy place like DUBAI! Come to Mexico, Cuba have SEX ON THE BEACH 24 hours a DAY 7 DAYS a week! In Latin countries if you do not have sex, everybody will laugh at you and call you a sissy!

Oh please! Everyplace has some dumb restrictions. Here in Japan I can walk down the street drinking a beer, or even toss back a few in a public park. Can't do that back home. In fact, breast feed a baby back home at the mother's own risk.

But sex on the beach can get anyone arrested and jailed anywhere. So can public nudity.

British? I reckon they'll appeal until they are awarded a good caning.

Brits getting plastered and shagging in public is nothing new - just look at their pub scene or Ibiza.

But these two are not only in their 30s, this happened after a BRUNCH!

The Brits are known for their lousy behavior abroad. Their soccer fans are a case in point. Although it is given a low priority in Australia it still happens and most of those who are caught tend to be British backpackers.

Indeed, public nudity and sex on the beach can get anyone arrested anywhere - including Latin America and the Caribbean (despite the fantasies of some earlier poster). Yet I think the punishment is harsh, I think it's only adequate they got arrested and prosecuted. They found what they were looking for.

Certainly you'd agree that some countries are riskier to visit than others? Or does this conflict with your socialist world view, that all countries are the same and it's simply fear mongering to say otherwise.

Anyway, I'd never visit an Islamic nation. I encourage the same for all "Infidels".

"Evil" is in the eye of the beholder. If you like to live under Shariah or Shariah-inspired laws, go for it. Hey, if you like polygamy, wife-beating, and instant divorce, you´ll enjoy it.
