RIP French tourists! What a horrible way to die! I know the French just love California so it makes me even more the sadder. Soledad?? This is a crummy prison town with some of the worst scum bag prisoners in all of California, what the heck were they doing there??

Probably en route on 101S from Monterey to San Luis Obispo and beyond...

Soledad has a state prison and a shopping center, neither of which affects the flow of traffic much on the 101. I drive that way myself and can't think of what would cause someone to crash there. It's quite flat in contrast to the road farther south which is hilly and windy.

I'm always amazed at the carnage of accidents in America. Driving too slow as they do in the US makes people go on auto-pilot and not pay attention to what they are doing in my opinion....though that is perhaps not the case here.

    RIP

Accidents happen all the time, it is a law of physics.

True, but that's not the point I'm making. How many videos do we see of freeway pile-ups where an accident hoccurs, and then the vehicles behind just steadily plow into the others at 55mph, one after the other after the other?

Comment shows a lack of perspective.

While you are being amazed at the carnage of accidents in America, there are plenty of accidents that take place all over the world that are equally or even more tragic.

The odd thing is, Adverts, those this is not the fastest way south, though it's the one I typically use. The faster way, a bit inland, is boring and prone to thick fog in the winter. That's what causes the 40-50 car pile-ups. The other way, a road carved out of the cliffs along the Pacific, is the most beautiful but it takes much longer.

I looked at the local newspaper today since this accident occurred in the county where I live. There was no initial indication of why it occurred. We've never had an emergency rescue of this magnitude, and those involved did not want to contemplate on how it might have been worse.

Perhaps you should quit with the knee-jerk responses to constructive critisism?

If you can't understand from my comments that I am simply amazed at the carnage caused by people driving too slow, with all the vehicles stuck on cruise at 55mph and the people therefore not paying attention, then I won't be able to discuss anything further with you.

madverts, i don't mean to hurt your feelings but your criticism in this case is anything but constructive.
