So I can enter America stating that I am a devout muslim and expect my religious rights to be respected and name not to put me onto the FBIs most untrustworthy lists. Bush has no right to critize anyone! he has suppressed peoples rights for too long.

There are plenty of devout Muslims living in the US right now. Do you think the FBI is monitoring all of them, that they are all on the HS watch lists?

Get real. You may face increased scrutiny or even discrimination or hostility (no country is perfect), but chances are you'll be fine and you'll be able to worship at the mosque of your choice, provided you don't show any potential links to radical/militant groups.

I doubt that is feasible, but at one hopes that at least the mosquest they go to deserve some extra attention. The problem with "devout muslims" is that they take the islamic teachings seriously, and those teachings divide the world into the house of islam and the house of war, and call for the believers to fight the house of war until it submits. "Devout" is such a nice word, but it really depends on what you are devout about.

Would george bush just shut his mouth and enjoy the Olympics.

Or, he can run over to Putin and they can compare notes about aggressive actions of one country over another. < :-)

adaydream; Part of President Bush`s job is to spread freedom and promote human rights.

You have to respect him for telling the Chinese straight how to improve themselves.

    ReaganLegend,

What did you think of my post? A previous one "bordered on blasphemy." In other words, close but no cigar. If I don't qualify this time, well you're too harsh a judge:

The sirocco of freedom GWB promised is more like one of those blowing machines they use to make flags flutter in indoor settings.

No, I don't. I rather just see him in the crowd supporting the American atheletes. I personally see george bush as an embarrassment to US relations aroud the world.

I think he should shut his mouth. You disagree. < :-)

  • ReaganLegend at 04:26 AM JST - 11th August

adaydream; George Bush came to China to support US athletes and promote human rights and freedom in China.

How culd anyone consider George Bush an embarrassment, surely you jest?

LIBERTAS; There is no danger from cults in the US. They are all closely monitered to ensure they are legitamate.

Bush believes in freedom or religous groups that are morally correct.

fake religions and cults must be eliminated, to save people from fanatics.

  • ReaganLegend at 07:10 AM JST - 11th August

adaydream; The government judges if a religion is real or a cult and a bad influenece on society.

President Bush claimed god spoke to him, and i have no reason to doubt him.

We are pressuring China, to behave like the US in reagrds to religion.

Eventually China will become one of the good guys.

Seems like Bush is being a hippocrite yet again. He wants other nations to allow for religious freedom, yet he himself refuses to accept other religions of Muslims.

  • JoeBigs at 05:58 PM JST - 11th August

You know I love freedom and I respect religion but when a religion does not respect other religions it most not be allowed to spread.

In this case I respect what China is doing by watching out for it`s people from the nut job. Some religious nuts that would try and sway them to some insane hate filled religion.

I am all for religion but as long as it is not one of those fringe nut jobs. Wont go into names, not the right topic.

Why are you against the Chinese having religious freedom? Does it have anything to do with your opposition to the liberation of Iraqis from 24 years of cruel dictatorship?

You oppressor, you! Considering your overt aversion to change (especially for the better), you should stop referring to yourself as a liberal or a progressive.

  • adaydream at 05:18 AM JST - 12th August

I'm not against China having religious feeedoms.

I'm against a continued bombardment of China this and China that and we know better for your people than you.

I remembner a China with doors closed to the world.

But I see a China of today. They have more freedoms, even religious. I have friends, from when I was a Mormon, that were missionaries in China. No they don't get the same level of freedom to preach the gospel, but they have opened their doors. It ain't going to happen in my lifetime.

I have a friend who was a citizen of China and she married a Major in the US Army. She's with him, he's stationed in Hawaii. We worked together got a year. I was her tudor in several college courses and I was interested in their culture and country. She agreed that the USA has many more freedoms than China, but the difference in the last 20 years is amazing.

I'm just not much in a tether to get it done during my lifetime. Changes come gradual. It will happen and it'll happen on their terms, not yours or mine. < :-)

Funny, I hear that one from leftists in the U.S. all the time. Thing is, if nobody ever called on China to open up, would it? No. People in positions of influencs such as American presidents (yes, even Bush) need to make public statements pressuring China to make progress. Remember "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall."? You believe that had no impact? So much for "their terms".

She agreed that the USA has many more freedoms than China, but the difference in the last 20 years is amazing.

Yes, but considering that 19 years ago China killed more than 5,000 of its own people on the evening news, it had plenty of room to improve. I suppose you've noticed that to this day, the only mention of the 1989 uprising allowed in China is from a pro-government viewpoint. Even if you do a Google search in America, Google will only refer you to pro-Chinese government sites. That's due to China's constraints, not America's.

You still haven't explained why Bush should "just shut his mouth". As the president who oversaw the liberation of Iraqis from 24 years of Saddam's dictatorship and the liberation of Afghanis from Taliban rule, why shouldn't he call out China? Would you prefer Clinton? Carter? Obama? McGovern? Have any of them ever liberated a country?

I have Chinese friends too. One is an engineer with my firm, and another friend moved back to Beijing a couple of years ago to help prepare for the Olympics, and hopefully change her country for the better. Since she identified with the leftist Democrats during her time in the U.S., I guess it will be baby steps. Still, she was in high school during the 1989 uprising, in Beijing, just a few blocks from Tiananmen Square, and remembers her school being under lock-down during the event. But it wasn't until she got to America that she learned anything more than what her government wanted her to know.

    ReaganLegend,

Of course, in the United States, the government judges whether a religion is real or a tax dodge. It also judges whether people are conscientious objectors or not--or, sometimes, whether they are ministers or not.
