Talking about water boarding, somebody told me that when hearing the term for the first time, curious George expressed the opinion that "Greg Louganis was a great Olympic waterboarder."
I recommend people to track the vid down and decide for themselves if it is torture or even a human rights violation."
Don't need to, I, as I am sure almost everybody here, has been dunked in a public pool at least a few times. Don't laugh, when you are 8 years old and some teenager high on something decides to hold you down, its scary.
I agree with bush on this one. Sometimes our Olympians do not act or behave in a manner I would hope for from our Olympians.
The '98 ice hockey team took out their frustrations from not winning gold on a Nagano hotel room.
I've also seen Olympians whine about not winning "the color of medal" they wanted.
The purpose for the Olympics, in my opinion, has always been about doing your absolute best as an athlete while representing your country.
Complaining about not winning a gold seems a bit shallow to me.
I truly hope that our Olympians conduct themselves in a way that brings nothing but honor on the United States. In other words, I hope the Olympians follow what bush says and not what he does.
Hell he is talking human rights in the right country.....China the symbol of human rights for all world leaders to look at and say."Yeah I want my dictatorship to run as well as theirs!"....
Now pass the torches and bring on the Tibetan human sacrifices! Oh yeah Bush at the right venue!
Those of us, un-like yourself as you clearly showed us on the child torture thread, that are apalled to see bush co's use torture and imprisonment without trial - have a hard time taking him seriously when he's talking about human rights values in an address to Olympians.
How many human rights does those american Olympians can enjoyed in their own country when everyone was wired by Homeland security? US is not big difference with GDR east germany under the stasi survellences!

There is a vid on the net of a guy getting water-boarded(he volunteered).
Even though he knew it was not "real" and he could stop at any time he lasted less than 15 seconds. Full procedure is epxlained in the vid.
I recommend people to track the vid down and decide for themselves if it is torture or even a human rights violation.

Wow, I see this thread has already morphed into a discussion of waterboarding.

It's called reality and the comparison seems a little more appropriate than "love for freedom, our regard for human rights and human dignity."

I'm with you, Taka. Mostly because of some of the displays from some athletes during the medal ceremony. Pretty embarrassing stuff.

Go Taka - when you come from a smaller country, you appreciate any colour medal - even feeling pride just to see your country-men compete in an event.

sarge,
"I see this thread has already morphed into a discussion of waterboarding."
Are you really surprised?
Heh, then again, bush supporters seem completely myopic to the double standards here...

Madverts - "Are you really surprised ( that this thread has already morphed into a discussion on waterboarding )?"
Nah. JT posters often post stuff that has nothing to do with the topic.
"ambassadors of liberty"
Yeah, that's us.

No, but I'll keep reminding you about your double standards on human rights!
Heh, and I want to play lead guitar.

But wait - - Was it America that once posted the infamous 'No Dogs or Chinamen Allowed' in Shanghai parks? No, no, I don't think so...
