I knew that the Chinese played a very big part in the opening of the West, laying railroad tracks, immigrant farmers and other tasks performed just like the slaves did. Except the Chinese weren't given their freedom after the War Between the States. They stayed slaves.

I see nothing wrong wih this legislation. < :-)

America shall never apology for the wrongdoings of the Chinese exclusion act from 1882 to 1941. Because the majority americans has some biaed prejudices over China and Chinese people, america seen herself like messiah over all the asians and demanding endless gratitutes for their 'liberation of asia' out of Japan's occupations! America's opinion was China was defiant against US hegamony in asia! Thats why China was known as a 'stragetic advesary' by the Bush admin. This is politics not history!

The Chinese exclusion act was before the existence before Chairman Mao TseTung was born. And then China was known as the Manchurian empire! The Manchrian empire has never done something like raid over Pearl harbour. The Chinese exclusion act was a racist law targeting all Chinese people due to their ethnics and the racial supremacy of european ethnics in america! Thats why China shall never trusting america anymore and see US is an enemy states just like other imperial powers! And thats why the Korean war was fought in savages although america didnt intended to invade China!

I was initially against this legislation because it seems its time has passed, but then I read dragonczar's comments and realized that no matter how often we're reminded of the past there will always be bigots to repeat the mistakes.

    Pass the legislation.

As a fourth generation Californian living in Japan, I feel it's never too late for an apology regarding this horrible chapter in history. While this past legislation no longer applies (anti-miscegenation laws, etc.), I do believe the people who suffered from this racist legislature deserve an apology, even if they're no longer around to hear it. If passed, it will send the message that we have learned from our mistakes and I feel that's what makes this apology so necessary.
