Makes sense. The abuse of foreign sex-trade workers/exotic dancers is facilitated by the very fact that they are not Canadian.

Good move Canada!

Discrimination !

Whatever happened to equal opportunity.

Maybe the TPP agreement will overturn.

Sourpuss: All sex-trade workers/exotic dancers and such can face abouse in the workplace. However, being a foreigner may mean that they are unable to go to the police if they are in trouble (language issue, some pimp holding their passport, being brought over illegally to be in the trade, no contacts on the outside world to inform them of the abuse) So, I think this may help. And as for the manager claiming that he wants foreign beauties...Canada is a pretty multi-cultural country so I am sure he can find LEGAL citizens with ethnic qualities.

BTW, if they realllllly want to keep working in that industry, they could also apply to become a citizen. That may mean a few years out of the industry but they could always go back to it once they have their citizenship.

Geez, a ban on imported assets. There aren't that many true natives anymore, ya know. What's Free Trade?

Wait for the USA retaliation by banning those cute characters Chip & Dale from Canada. Something has to be done because Canada's unemployment rate was 7,3% in May 2012.

Yes, indeed. That's what I said.

Something wrong with homegrown strippers?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Well there's a morally correct decision.

This prohibition will only increase the price of foreign booblegging!

"Canada is a pretty multi-cultural country so I am sure he can find LEGAL citizens with ethnic qualities."

So the only reason to seek "talent" from abroad is that they will be cheaper / easier to manipulate.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Well, it's not really fair for those ladies, and it does limit the 'talent', but I think the safety issue trumps the lack of fairness. I guess these places, if they are serious about the 'exotic' qualities of the ladies, will have to get people who are permanent residences or who have naturalized from those nations.

I used to visit Boston's "combat zone" almost every weekend when I was in college. Melanie was my favorite dancer at the two o'clock lounge". Canada should not ban foreign strippers.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Taj: exactly! That is the huge problem. They exploit women who enter the profession in hopes of being able to make a living for themselve.

CrazyJoe: I've enjoyed going to the strippers a few times as well. I am totally for having strippers as long as they are being treated with dignity. I would hate to get a lap dance from someone who is being exploited and in such a desperate situation that they cannot leave. A lap dance isn't better when the stipper is crying (even if it is on the inside).

So instead of implementing more safety nets for foreign and native strippers alike, they just reached for the lazy, small minded answer of a ban.

“to protect vulnerable foreign workers from the risk of abuse and exploitation in sex trade related businesses."

I don't think they could be any more vague if they tried. Makes you wonder how much of this is made up and exaggerated.

Once visited a club in Vancouver that boasted of having only "home grown talent". Man, it was like spending time in a cottage cheese factory. Guess the canucks prefer their strippers to be husky.

Foreign strippers will no longer be permitted to bare their breasts and shake their booties in Canada, Immigration Minister Jason Kenney said Wednesday.

He said that?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

So now instead of stripping, where customers see them regularly and get to recognize them, they will turn to prostitution and be shuffled from city to city to avoid detection. Yeah, that's really going to help.

". Guess the canucks prefer their strippers to be husky."

I guess you erm, strayed into the wrong kinda joint Ramen?

Darn it all...now what am I going to do for extra cash.

Darn it all...now what am I going to do for extra cash.

Why don't you donate it to Tohoku Tsunami victims. They need your cash, please. You will be doing something right for a good cause in humanity.

Morally correct to do so. America and Japan need to do the same. Too many are already here.

Sorry sourpuss. I thought you were just making a snarky sarcastic remark.

This is ridiculous, only girls born and raised in China know how to give proper massages, how are Canadians supposed to get proper massages now?

Human trafficing really is the lowest form of behaviour - just above owning slaves, if you care to put a lable on it. I think it's a good move by the Canadians.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

So, it looks like Canadians have decided that only Canadian women can now be exploited. What a commentary on how the Canadian government treats its own citizen women.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

What this really means is that these women will be trafficked somewhere else. Canada just doesn't want to be the country with the responsibility to help them.

Must've been an uprising from the Quebecois Stripper Union that got this legislation through. They are quite the big lobby. Tabernac!

Jason Kenney's a good guy, and it's another good call on his part.

Canada is a joke! Plenty of drunk, Canadian etc..girls stripping left and right from Cabo to CanCun, do we Mexicans complain?? Hell no! Let them strip! Bring on the tequila!!

From a general 'moral' stand-point, surprised to discover this genre of temp work permits.. Thought that talented immigrants into Canada are scientists, highly educated businessmen, professionals etc.. There shouldn't be any such permit granted in the first place..unless Canada has a too large need for strippers.
