“This law created two classes of Canadians,” Immigration Minister John McCallum told a press conference. “We believe very strongly that there should be only one class of Canadians, that all Canadians are equal, that a Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian.”
God save our gracious Queen, Long live our noble Queen, God save the Queen
Send her victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us, God save the Queen

If all Canadians are supposed to be equal, they should all be allowed only one passport.

CAnada is not Japan. Even South Korea has gotten rid of that stupid rule.
Exactly. Well done Justin! You are on your way to becoming a wonderful PM. My hat off to you sir.

Good. These populist laws are ridiculous in theory and in practice.
In addition to being discriminatory, if one of your citizens is a terrorist you have a responsibility to bring them home and lock them up, not cut them loose in some third world country of their birth for the rest of the world to deal with. Also, imagine if every country passed a similar law, there would be a mad scramble to quickly cancel everyone's citizenship following a terror attack before the other country beat you to it (since a person cannot be made stateless).
@Bernd Laurent
Practically speaking, this was already the case since the government never recognised the existence of foreign nationality of dual citizens (until this law went into effect).
Dual nationals cannot request consular assistance if they're arrested and they are required to identify themselves as Canadians when they enter or leave the country.

So you believe in equality only when it serves you?

Yes, two classes of Canadians. Those who have NOT been convicted of TERRORISM, and the one who has been CONVICTED of TERRORISM.

And a Terrorist, is a Terrorist is a Terrorist . . . why should the Canadian public be "sharply divided" about this law? Just send deport them back to Al-Raqqah. The end.

Terrorist or not, a Canadian is a Canadian. Should all other criminals residing in Canadian prisons have their citizenship revoked?
Wc626
A crime is one thing. But an act of terrorism, committed by somebody who applied and acquired "Canadian citizenship", is something different. Dual citizens ought to be grateful that they were accepted into a progressive western-society -not try and blow it up with c-4 and gunfire.
A Jordanian national? He was convicted by his host Canadians. Throw the book at him and others like him.

Seems some folks are equating terrorism to armed robbery, or murder, or rape. It's not, especially when commited by someone that is not originally from your country, and intends to massacre and harm as many of the indigenous people as possible for later conquests.
Treason has a definition, or else it wouldn't exist. Same with terrorism. It's not the same as mass murder, or serial killers. Terrorism has a specific goal.

Amara grew up in Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Cypress before immigrating to Canada in 1997. A mere nine years later, his group built detonators and acquired explosive materials for large truck bombs that were to be detonated in 2006 near the Toronto Stock Exchange and CN Tower. An Ontario military base was also to be attacked. Prime Minister Trudeau and Immigration Minister John McCallum are poster children for political correctness gone mad. Amara has nothing but contempt for Canada and this weakness by its leaders will only increase his contempt for it.

I am thinking the Libs have got this one rather wrong.....

Didn't the Canadians just "legalize" pot recently too? (sheesh)

Right, Mr. Trudeau.... Canada needs all the terrorists it can get. Well, you will have to live with the result of your idiotic PC policiy.

All Canadians are NOT equal. I have known a couple of wealthy "global citizens" who have gained Canadian passports as a financial hedge and nothing more.
Sorry, they don't deserve the same rights and protections as single nationality Canadians who live there, work there, raise their kids there, pay taxes, or serve in the Canadian military.

I hate PC policy. It's pure nonsense.
