Canada to legalize marijuana in 2017

Watch the visitor numbers skyrocket.

Can Canada's neighbour follow, or is it addicted to criminalising its less privileged?

Good move by Canada. The war on drugs is a fallacy that makes criminals rich.

I'd prefer decriminalization over legalization. Regulation, yes. Same as alcohol. Employers choose to hire or retain users entirely their choice.

Decriminalization leaves the market unregulated, and leaves open profits to the criminal underworld. It simply means that the users are not prosecuted. This isn't much of an improvement on the situation, and it leaves out taxes on sales as well. Legalization is a much better option. It brings in regulation and tax revenues, and it undercuts the criminal element. All in all much better for society.

Free the weed.

Rake in the taxes.

A win/win.

When will the elitists running European governments give up their secret cash cow?

The so-called war on drugs is a failure. European governments suppress their own freaking studies that all say unequivocally that all is lost and it's time to legalize. Shame on them sending people to gaol as they secretly control supply.

THC ain't no big deal. Alcohol and tobacco are worse.

As long as crack, meth, LSD and heroin users / dealers are being targeted and prosecuted by law enforcement -this is good.

Legalization is a much better option.

Making an effort to catch narcotics violators, on the part of law enforcement, is a better option. You do realize the police are right.

So now it will really be a "Canadian High"! How ironic with a name like: Canada will take steps next year to legalize marijuana, Health Minister Jane Philpott announced on Wednesday. Good news me thinks.

Good move! But whoever thinks that there will be less organized crime is suffering from a (possibly marihuana induced) delusion.

Coming back into Japan from Canada will lead to long lines at customs here.....
